If you were paying attention at the start of the Crimson Forest, you’ll have seen a cutscene that included the bosses you’ll be fighting as you progress through this area of Phantom Blade Zero. First up was Hua Qianxiao, the drunken monkey-like boss on the bridge, and now you’re fighting Stone Hand Iron Fever, the iron gauntlet wearing, punch you in the face boss that you’ll likely struggle with more than any others before this one.

If you’re here, that’s exactly what’s happening, but don’t worry, we have everything you need in this guide to ensure you can easily beat Stone Hand Iron Fever in Phantom Blade Zero, and be on your way promptly.

How to Beat Stone Hand Iron Fever in Phantom Blade Zero

You’ll have just escaped the depths of the darkest dungeon in the game so far, having found your way into the Secret Chamber and found the dying sister, and now as you explore, you’ve found another lost character, although Stone Hand Iron Fever is a lot more aggressive than the Baisian Sect sister, that’s for sure. Before we go any further though, you should know what build we had going into this boss fight:

Both weapons were Level 10+, as were the two Phantom Edges, and even that didn’t feel like a big enough advantage here. If you can find more materials and upgrade a little more, by all means do, as it’ll help.

Stone Hand Iron Fever is a big brute, but he’s surprisingly agile and quick on his feet. He favours the same combos again and again, so make sure to watch out for his five or six hit combo ending in a red attack, and the same combo ending in a blue attack. Make sure to R1 and L1 counter those attacks respectively, but you should see them coming a mile off.

He likes to sprint circles around the arena, circling you as he pounces around, before attacking out of nowhere. Make sure to always be on Guard here, as you’ll not be able to predict when he’s coming at you. As with the other boss fights before this, like Jing Ye, The Outlaw, or The Hunt, Hunter of the Order, for example, his speed of attacks and aggression means you won’t have much time to breathe, and certainly not much time for your own Guard Meter to replenish. Get used to switching between your two weapons to do just that.

If you don’t, you’ll have a really bad time, trust me.

After you’ve taken about a third of his health away, you’ll see Stone Hand Iron Fever back off from you. Do not go and attack him! He’s levelling up his Sha-Chi, and a purple glow will surround him, before exploding in a bomb-like fashion. This can and will hurt you if you’re too close, so stay away. Take the time to heal, replenish your Guard Meter or just take a breather and regroup, he’ll soon be back on you.

In this next phase, signified by the purple glow around him, Stone Hand Iron Fever will be considerably more aggressive, and he’ll bring two new moves into the mix:

  • He’ll do a new red attack which will grab you, slamming you into the floor and then kicking you away. This will take two thirds of your health away in one hit.
  • He uses a new end combo, which is a three-hitter, but ends with him pushing off the floor and using his two feet to springboard you backwards.

Avoid these like the plague, and always be ready for them. You’ll want to be constantly attempting to Parry his attacks, and attacking him in the brief moments you get the chance to. As for your usage of your Power Surge and Phantom Edge attacks?

Well, in short, do not use them any other time than when he’s already stunned. Several times over he would hit through my Phantom Edge double R2 with the Dread Axe, resulting in my untimely death. I’d always suggest using them just as his Sha-Chi meter fills to the top, extending your own window to unleash on him.

Maybe more so than most of the others so far, this is a boss fight that’ll really test your capabilities and understanding of the mechanics in Phantom Blade Zero. You’ll have to know when to Parry and when to block, and certainly when to swap weapons to replenish your Sha-Chi. Without that basic understanding, this may be the boss you get stuck at for a long while.

If you can do that, as well as avoid any silly mistakes and keep on top of him, you’ll be able to beat Stone Hand Iron Fever and move on to the next step of Soul’s journey. Either way, you now know what to do and when, as we promised!
