One of the best parts about a game like Dragon Age: The Veilguard is undeniably the companions that you can acquire throughout your journey, as well as the accompanying stories that make them into their own unique characters.
Within this article, we will discuss and rank the different Dragon Age: The Veilguard companion quests that the player can complete, as well as their rewards. Please be warned that spoilers are ahead for anyone who has not fully experienced the story arcs of each companion in Dragon Age: The Veilguard.
5: Lucanis – Inner Demons

Lucanis is a very interesting character from Dragon Age: The Veilguard, as they starts out as a very rough and gruff character when you first free them from their prison and meet their literal inner demon Spite, which Lucanis is battling with throughout the game.
There are plenty of companion quests that players can do for Lucanis that provide an insight into his story, but the quest that takes the cake is the quest called Inner Demons, which takes place within the Ossuary as Spite Lucanis’ inner demon takes the player there to attempt to save Lucanis from himself.
Due to Spite and Lucanis disagreeing on certain things, the player is tasked with going through a different version of the Ossuary than where they found Lucanis originally. This time the player was tasked with talking to different manifestations of characters like Caterina, Harding, Neve, and even Illario before eventually freeing Lucanis.
The reason this quest is so important is that it determines the mindset Lucanis has in his final story arc mission, determining whether he and Spite are focused on finding Caterina or stopping Illario. This mission may not be full of combat and a big boss fight, but it does show a deeper meaning of fighting with your inner demons to make a choice that you struggled to make in the first place.
Rewards for this Dragon Age: The Veilguard companion quest:
- 500XP
- Increased bond with Lucanis.
Not the biggest rewards, but for Lucanis fans, it’s an important step.
4: Neve – The Cobbled Swan Case

Neve is one of the first characters that the player will come across within Dragon Age: The Veilguard as they attempt to help the main character from the very beginning. This allows the player to jump straight into Neve’s story arc as they begin in the city of Minrathous, Neve’s home.
Now this quest is both a main quest and a companion quest, as it is a main part of the story, but it also affects Neve in a certain way. During this quest, players are tasked with exploring Dock Town within Minrathous to find out what has happened in the Cobbled Swan tavern.
After a bit of investigation putting you in the role of a detective with Neve by searching for clues and talking to informants, you eventually end up in the Thread markets where the Venatori are awaiting you. After defeating the Venatori, you come into contact with the head of the Threads Damas, who is being possessed by an enemy known as Aelia.
This has a major impact on Neve as this is an enemy that she thought she once defeated. This is quite an important quest for Neve as it begins to provide some backstory into her character as well as show the player the powerful side of Neve as she stands up for Dock Town if the city is attacked by the dragon and releases Damas from the control of Aelia.
Rewards for this Dragon Age: The Veilguard companion quest:
- 2,500XP
- A keepsake for Neve.
- 400 gold.
- 100 Reputations for the Shadow Dragons.
Even if you’re not a Neve fan, the rewards may be too much to miss out on.
3: Harding – The Heart of the Titan

Harding is a character that many Dragon Age players would recognize in a hard beat, as she was also present in Dragon Age: Inquisition, although she did look slightly different in said game. Now she has had a glow-up, as well as a more fleshed-out backstory.
This quest is quite an important quest for Harding, as it provides a major look into the character herself as well as the backstory of the dwarves. This is down to the fact that Harding is tasked with saving a set of dwarves who have been trapped by red Lyrium.
After exploring a large mountain and saving these dwarves, you eventually enter the heart of the mountain, which is made even more of an accurate description as the literal heart of a titan is waiting inside the cave, providing one of the most interesting and daunting scenes in the game.
Once you’ve discovered this location, players will discover that an entity known as the Titan’s Shade will be waiting for them, in the form of Harding. A battle will commence, and after this, the player will be able to talk to Harding, who has now absorbed the Titan’s Shade, leaving the player with the choice to convince Harding to trust in her true self or to take on the Titan’s anger.
Rewards for this Dragon Age: The Veilguard companion quest:
- Plate of the Paragon Unyielding (Uncommon Armor)
- Increased bond with Harding (and other present companions).
Beyond the rewards above, this quest involves choices that will directly affect the way Harding acts towards the player at the end of the game.
2. Taash – Lair of the Dragon King

Despite the controversies that are circulating regarding Taash, they do have one of the most interesting and empowering stories within Dragon Age: The Veilguard, but one mission stands out amongst the rest, and that is Lair of the Dragon King.
This quest arrives near the end of Taash’s story arc as they receive a letter sending them to their mother’s house under false pretenses. After realizing their mother is missing, a mission to assault the Dragon King’s compound commences.
Throughout this mission, Taash gets more and more aggressive, right up until the moment in which Rook and Taash are momentarily captured as they look on to witness the death of Taash’s mother at the hands of the Dragon King.
This alone makes this mission quite upsetting, but seeing Taash’s mother die by the tablet they were too busy researching over their own child as well as by the hand of someone like the Dragon King sends Taash into a rage until the Dragon King is defeated.
To add to the sadness, the player witnesses Taash holding the body of their mother as the mountain they are in is crumbling down, and Taash can only sit there holding their mother in their arms as they beg the Rook to help them bring her out, overall making this one of the most upsetting stories within the game.
Rewards for this Dragon Age: The Veilguard companion quest:
- 3,500XP
- 100 Reputation with the Lords of Fortune.
- Golden Casque.
- Dragonfire Catalyst.
- Dragon Tooth/Dragon Scales/Dragon Bone
- Increased bonding with the companions present.
You’d be silly to ignore this quest, to put it simply.
1: Emmrich – The Sacrifice of Souls

Emmrich is one of the most unique characters within Dragon Age: The Veilguard, as his past begins as a mystery until the player slowly progresses through the main game, leading them to uncover parts of his past through conversation-type missions.
But these missions aren’t the ones we are going to talk about; the mission in question is The Sacrifice of Souls, which is one of Emmrich’s final missions, and it tasks the player with breaking into Blackthorne Manor during a party that Emmrich’s historical friend Hezenkoss hosts.
The reason they are infiltrating this location is to stop Hezenkoss from using a lantern full of souls that would power a large skeleton monster. Throughout this whole mission, Emmrich utilizes his companion Manfred to infiltrate the party to gather information showing the bond Emmrich and Manfred have, even to the point that Manfred begins to learn how to speak.
This shows how close of a relationship Manfred and Emmrich had, even to the point of Emmrich watching Manfred sacrifice himself to defeat the skeleton monster, causing him to be upset. After this mission takes place, Emmrich and the player are brought into another quest, allowing Emmrich the choice to either save Manfred and bring his soul back to his body or become a lich.
Rewards for this Dragon Age: The Veilguard companion quest:
- 3,750XP
- 600 gold.
- A rare keepsake for Emmrich, the Crested Focus.
- 100 reputation with the Mourn Watch.
- Increased bone with both companions.
The keepsake alone makes the quest a worthwhile use of your time!
