Announced to everyone’s shock and surprise at Gamescom 2024, Dying Light: The Beast isn’t what franchise fans were expecting, but nonetheless, we’re all excited about the prospect of what’s to come. Featuring the return of Kyle Crane, players will be taking control of a new version of the man from the first game. Thirteen years as a prisoner being tortured and experimented on is enough to change anyone, mentally, emotionally, and physically.
Thanks to the experiments from the antagonist Baron, Crane sports a few new abilities beyond just extreme parkour and combat skills. Players will be able to upgrade these skills throughout Dying Light: The Beast, and beyond super strength and long jumps, we don’t know what else we’ll have at our disposal, but if franchise director Tymon Smetkala has his way, there may be a trophy/achievement involved that’d stop us anyway.
Dying Light: The Beast’s Tymon Smetkala Gets an Idea

During our lengthy interview with Tymon Smektala, he dished some interesting details on all things Dying Light: The Beast and more, and there was one thing we desperately needed to know; whether the newly introduced powers would be necessary to complete the game. For some Dying Light purists, the thought of gaining what amounts to superpowers was a turn-off, but Smektala assuaged their fears:
If you want to engage with those powers, you can, but they’re not mandatory. Actually, maybe we should do an achievement or trophy for completing the game without unleashing The Beast.
Of course, the vast majority of us will be running to Dying Light: The Beast with every intention of destroying anyone who gets in our way with our newly acquired powers, but if you don’t want to use them, you don’t have to. Other than for those aforementioned purists and Platinum Trophy/Achievement hunters, we can’t see too many going throughout the game without at least trying them out.
Dying Light: The Beast’s release date is still under wraps, but we know it’s launching in ‘Summer 2025’ on PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One.
