Fans of Forgive Me Father can finally rejoice, as Forgive Me Father 2 has now made its way onto their systems, both naturally and supernaturally, and I have had the pleasure of trying said game before its official release.

Before Forgive Me Father 2 was released, I had the opportunity to try it out and see what horrors were awaiting players within this bizarre and gloomy story, and it is safe to say I took full advantage and did all I could to see it through. Whether it be exploring the broken psyche of the main character, the Priest, taking on the numerous enemies that blocked my way, acquiring new and haunting weapons, or just exploring the mental hospital that acted as the game’s hub, I tried to see all I could see.

The World Of Forgive Me Father 2 is Full of Dark and Horrifying Locations, While Also Being Detailed and Fun to Explore

One of the biggest draws of Forgive Me Father 2 is the different locations the player will be able to explore during their time with the game. Within the game, there are a few different levels that the player can explore as they attempt to solve the mysteries hidden within the psyche of the Priest’s mind, with each of these locations being very well designed as well as fun to explore.

During my time with Forgive Me Father 2, I constantly found myself attempting to search each of these areas to their fullest. Even though they were relatively linear, I often attempted to search off the beaten path in an attempt to find any secrets lurking within the shadows, and it was often the case that I was rewarded for my curiosity.

This meant that the more I played the game, the more I wondered as to what was hiding from me within the different locations I had already visited, as there were numerous hidden secrets and rewards that I had missed during my first playthrough that I eventually went back and found after completing each level.

What made searching each of these locations even more fun was how the comic-like design affected the scenery, making everything stand out and feel as though I could go absolutely anywhere.

Along with the overall levels that were included in the game being very well designed art-wise, the developers also did a fantastic job of filling the world itself with decoration and background props that I found quite enjoyable to see as I went through the game. Whether it be an “I want you sign” with a picture of Cthulhu on it or strange posters warning the world about horses on roofs, there was plenty of flavor text within the game world that made it feel alive and lived in.

Forgive Me Father 2 is Full of Bizarre and Deadly Weapons With Incredible Designs

For a game set in the FPS genre, it makes sense that the guns the player will use will need to be detailed and easy to use, as well as fun to use, and Forgive Me Father 2 manages to uphold these different aspects beautifully, as each weapon is wonderful to behold.

Starting out as simple weapons, each of these weapons can be altered throughout the game to become both more powerful and more disturbing as the game goes on. During my time with Forgive Me Father 2, I constantly found myself unsure as to what upgrade I should choose for the different weapons at my disposal, as they all sounded incredibly deadly to the enemies I was coming up against.

The best part of these weapons was their overall design, as each weapon looked as if the development team put a lot of time and effort into creating these weapons, both in how they are used and what they actually looked like, and to me this was a big positive, as it made me enjoy using each weapon while also enjoying the designs that were available to me.

The Story of Forgive Me Father 2 is Very Gloomy, but Easy to Grasp

For those who are unsure about getting Forgive Me Father 2 due to it being a sequel, I would like to say do not worry, as during my time with it, I did not find this to be a big issue, instead picking it up almost seamlessly.

Although Forgive Me Father 2 is a direct sequel to the original game that was released back in 2022 and follows the story of the unnamed Priest character, this title focuses more on the Priest’s past and the Lovecraftian horrors that await him than on the story of the previous game.

As with any game inspired by H.P. Lovecraft’s novels, players are safe to bet that they will come across plenty of disturbing and monstrous entities during their journey in Forgive Me Father 2, both keeping them on their edge in terms of horror while also keeping their guns empty of bullets.

What makes Forgive Me Father 2‘s story so compelling is that it tackles some rather difficult topic points, as well as being just an overall spooky game, as it brings to question the Priest’s psyche, showcasing a world torn asunder and their fractured mind being torn apart piece by piece, making for one hell of an interesting story to play through.

A Trial By Fire Has Never Been More Perfectly Placed

Although my overall experience with Forgive Me Father 2 has been incredibly positive, there have been some minor issues that I have come across that did sour my experience, even slightly. One of these issues is that the game doesn’t always tutorialize the player in certain game mechanics that would be necessary for the player to know.

During my time with Forgive Me Father 2, I constantly found myself figuring things out as I went through the game, more often well after I likely should have known about it. For example, after acquiring a weapon, the game doesn’t tell you how to reload said weapon manually; this may not seem like a large issue, as pressing each button will eventually lead to you figuring that out, but in an FPS game, something as simple as that should be telegraphed early on.

Along with not telling the player how to reload, I was also surprised to find a radial wheel for my weapons, which I will admit I found relatively late in the game. As said above, it took pressing numerous buttons at random to even discover this feature, let alone know it existed, which I will admit made me feel dumb I didn’t try this button sooner, but if a game doesn’t inform you that the button does anything, most players likely won’t try it.

For some items the game does provide an in-game hint as to what said item does, like when picking up shields for the first time, the Priest does inform the player in a sort of talking-to-themselves kind of way that the shields will reduce the damage done to them, but in terms of the weapon wheel or reload, players will sadly need to learn these the hard way.
