Ghost of Yotei finally received a release date, and the gaming community is ready to dive into the world and fill the shoes of Atsu. The original game was a massive triumph and Sucker Punch Productions will likely take everything it has learned from it and feature more gameplay variety. However, while the preview looks promising, a massive shadow looms in the background.
Major publishers often lean towards the holiday season for bigger games, and some have already backed out or declined to announce release dates since none are brave enough to go toe-to-toe with Rockstar Games’ GTA 6. The highly anticipated project is said to have a 2025 release date; however, the developers have yet to announce an actual date. It is only a matter of time before the developers start giving updates.
Ghost of Yotei Could Have Major Problems After the Release Date Announcement

Sucker Punch Productions took its sweet time to develop the Ghost of Yotei, especially after how Ghost of Tsushima was a homerun and fans loved the idea of playing a katana-weilding protagonist. Unfortunately, this project isn’t the only triple-A threat expected to drop this year, and some fans are already making it known which game they will support at launch.
If GTA 6 is out I will not be there for Ghost OF YOTEI. Just speaking for myself though pic.twitter.com/8OA76uEc07 https://t.co/R6sqoSR4XT

The gaming competition looks fierce in 2025, and some players are eager to get their hands on the heavy hitters as soon as they release. Rockstar Games has been radio silent about GTA 6, and the only thing fans have to hold them over is a trailer released a year ago.
If gta 6 comes out this year idk if ghost of yotei has a chance

While the Grand Theft Auto franchise has been around for much longer and nurtured a generation of players, some are willing to give Ghost of Yotei a shot first since it is the only one of the two with a solid release date.
what makes you say that? i'll be getting ghost of yotei screw gta 6 😀

Fans have waited for the next major entry for a while now, and some are willing to ignore other major releases to commit and dedicate their time to what Rockstar Games has in store. Nevertheless, the real winners of this year are the gaming community for being spoiled with back-to-back bangers of video games.
Ghost of Yotei Will Do Fine Even if GTA 6 Will Be Released Close By

Even if Rockstar Games were to shadow drop GTA 6 with minimal marketing and promotion, it will still break records since fans have been demanding it for years. Plays will go out of their way to buy this game on day one, regardless of the price and other factors. This is the same reason why Ghost of Yotei will do fine, considering it is a first-party PlayStation franchise and a sequel to a successful game.
Regardless of which game releases first, there is no denying that this holiday season will be legendary. Two highly anticipated games coming out within the same year are rare in the gaming industry, and the gaming community can support both however they see fit.
Ghost of Yotei will release on October 2nd on PS5.
