Ghost of Yotei Director Reveals How Much Time You Will Spend in Ezo, and How It Took Notes From the First Game

Ghost of Yotei is one of the last major games scheduled for release in 2025, and the developers are eager to share the improvements they made since the first game. As a sequel, the gaming community expects the gameplay and content to be fairly similar to the original game with a few improvements, but the developers took the player’s feedback into account.

While the first game was massive in scale, some of the side content felt repetitive, especially after playing it for hours. Fortunately, Sucker Punch Productions opted to elevate the formula rather than change it entirely. Player freedom and exploration are something the developers wanted to improve, and it appears they have achieved this goal with flying colors.

While the first game was large in scale and had an ambitious story, Ghost of Yotei will have a similar feel, but focus more on player freedom and exploration. As a bounty hunter, Atsu works as a cold mercenary and has likely made enemies throughout her youth. You can visit different areas and complete side quests that will not affect the main story and build Atsu’s reputation from humble beginnings.

In a recent interview, director Nate Fox revealed that the side content will be as interesting as the main story. Fox encourages the players to take their time in playing Atsu’s campaign, and that there are no limitations or possibility of missing out on side content.

Ghost of Yotei is a game with a solid storyline. Atsushi’s goal is to achieve revenge on the Yotei Rokuninshu, and the way to progress through the main story in the game is very clear and easy to understand. All content outside of this main story is optional.

This implies that you can balance out main story objectives and accomplish some side stories that could potentially reward you with gear and better items. The directors added that the main story length will be as long as the base game, around 25 hours to complete, and much longer to finish all of the side content.

The open-world exploration of Ghost of Tsushima involves you following stray foxes and golden birds to lead you to new points of interest. However, the process can feel tedious and repetitive at times. For the sequel, Sucker Punch Productions made some innovations and integrated the music mechanic to help Atsu find new areas and secrets to uncover.

Ghost of Yotei will be released on October 2, 2025, exclusively for the PlayStation 5.
