Ghost of Yotei Release Date
Back in 2024, during PlayStation’s State of Play in September, players got their first look at Ghost of Yotei with a surprise reveal right at the end of the showcase. Even though the trailer took everyone’s breath away, the only thing that was missing was a release date.
However, gamers were given a release window of 2025, which is still the current release window at the time of writing.
Platforms

Even though Ghost of Tsushima began as a PlayStation-only title on both PlayStation 4 and 5, it seems Ghost of Yotei will be moving forward and becoming a next-gen-only title. To make this even more interesting, Ghost of Yotei has been built from the ground up by Sucker Punch as a PlayStation 5 title to allow even more detail and care to be given to the title and to benefit from the power of the console.
Story
So far, there is very little information regarding the story of Ghost of Yotei; all that we know is that the game is set in the year 1603 in Hokkaido, Japan, over 300 years after the original game was set and following a new protagonist known as Atsu.
From what has been said by Sucker Punch, Atsu will be a female warrior who will be adopting the persona of The Ghost as they take on a journey of vengeance and justice as they take on the feudal lords that surround Mount Yotei and call it home.
Unfortunately, at the time of writing, there isn’t much more information regarding the story itself, but it has been revealed that players will have more control over the narrative and choices that Atsu will make during their adventure.
Multiplayer
Originally Ghost of Tsushima didn’t begin with a multiplayer mode, but after time it received the Legends mode that allowed players to take on challenges with their friends. Unfortunately, there is no information hinting towards a game mode such as this within Ghost of Yotei, but it’s likely that it will get the same treatment as the original, at some point.
Gameplay
Ghost of Yotei will be following suit with its predecessor Ghost of Tsushima in terms of exploration, as we can see during the first trailer, allowing players to explore the open world to their heart’s content. Until a new trailer is revealed, we do not know how much of the original play style will be available within the game or how much has been improved.
However, it was revealed during the trailer at PlayStation’s State of Play in 2024 that players will have a host of new weapons to play with during their time with Ghost of Yotei, including:
- Dual-Wield Katana – In an immediate change from the first game, players will now be able to wield two Katanas instead of one, allowing for a complete change in playstyle from the first game.
- Tanegashima (Matchlock Rifles) – For those who like to take out bases stealthily and at range, you may be out of luck, as it seems Atsu has traded out the standard Bow and Arrow for a more powerful weapon in the terms of a Tanegashima.
- Kusarigama – With a complete change of pace, players will also get their hands on the Kusarigama, a weapon that uses a heavy weight at the end of the chain to launch a blade at the enemy while also using the weight and chain to disarm enemies at range.

With these different weapons, players will be able to experience a whole new play style within Ghost of Yotei while also being able to defeat enemies in a swifter and more brutal style, as each of these weapons allows for a whole new set of combinations. For now, these are the only weapons that have been confirmed to be introduced within Ghost of Yotei.
Ghost of Yotei Characters

Since Ghost of Yotei is set over 300 years after Ghost of Tsushima, players will be able to meet a whole host of new characters as they grow to create bonds with every one of them. For now, below are all the characters that have been revealed to be a part of Ghost of Yotei:
- Atsu – Played by Erika Ishii, Atsu is the protagonist of Ghost of Yotei who will be taking up the mantle of The Ghost in this new title.
