Days Gone Remastered Has Fans Saying the Same Two Things, And We Can’t Disagree With Either

Days Gone Remastered has been in the news recently after it made an appearance at Sony’s recent State of Play event. While fans have long requested a current-gen update to Bend Studio’s very first open-world experience, its new and improved version may have left some of them feeling a tad underwhelmed.

While there is a lot to like about Days Gone Remastered such as the addition of improved haptics that make excellent use of the PlayStation 5’s DualSense controller alongside new game modes and other improvements, the decision to give Bend Studio’s take on a post-apocalyptic Oregon a fresh coat of paint has not been earning the praise that Sony thought it would.

Days Gone Remastered Faces Some Backlash

One of the main reasons for Days Gone Remastered receiving an underwhelming response is the fact that its excellent narrative remains the same in its current-gen avatar, a fact that many fans of its story would have hoped would change with the addition of new content. With many fans eagerly requesting a sequel to Deacon St. John’s harrowing and poignant tale, Sony’s decision to scrap plans for a sequel has not sat well with PlayStation fans over the years.

While the original Days Gone did face its fair share of criticisms for technical issues and repetitive side content, its story remains among its highlights and Bend Studio may not have expected that Sony would scrap their plans for Days Gone 2 which may have addressed some of the game’s major issues.

Tweets from fans about Days Gone Remastered showcase how several fans hope that its current-gen avatar demonstrates the value of pursuing a sequel to Sony.

Some fans are even going as far as saying that Days Gone Remastered is a waste of time considering how the main story ended on a cliffhanger that made a sequel more necessary than a remaster.

With Bloodborne 2 being conspicuous by its absence at the State of Play event despite Sony’s latest attempts to optimize the FromSoftware title’s online presence pointing towards an impending announcement, PlayStation fans are more than happy to criticize Sony’s decision to move forward with Days Gone Remastered.

Does Days Gone Need a Remaster?

Technical issues aside, the original Days Gone was an impressive take on a post-apocalyptic version of Oregon, allowing Deacon to hop on his trusty motorbike and take on hordes of Freakers while navigating the strife between its human inhabitants.

Bend Studio’s excellent work on creating a world that is equal parts gorgeous and terrifying has prompted other fans to question the decision to release Days Gone Remastered considering that the original version runs very well on the PlayStation 5’s improved hardware and on PCs.

The tweet below is an excellent showcase of this argument, with little to no visual differences discernable between the game’s two versions.

Another user’s suggestion is that Days Gone Remastered exists purely because Sony wants to milk the IP for what it’s worth as much as possible. This is perhaps justified considering the lack of noticeable visual upgrades to the original game despite the presence of a Quality Mode and Performance Mode in the remaster.

While Days Gone Remastered is sure to bring fans of the original game a lot of joy as they take on its terrifying hordes and experience its explosive, action-packed main story once again, its very presence is an indication of Sony’s unwillingness to listen to what its players really want.

The Japanese giant may want to take a step back and reevaluate its priorities in the wake of its recent PSN outage and the dashed hopes of PlayStation fans hoping to hear more about Bloodborne 2.
