In a rather surprising turn of events for fans hoping to hear about Bloodborne 2, Sony has once again decided to give one of Hidetaka Miyazaki’s most iconic titles a pass in favor of a game that perhaps not many gamers would like to revisit.
Sony’s recent State of Play event had many gamers hopeful that the Japanese behemoth would finally announce Bloodborne 2, a sequel to one of the titles that remains among the most successful PlayStation exclusives to grace the console’s illustrious ranks. However, that was not to be.
Too Many Days Gone Without News of Bloodborne 2

Sony Interactive Entertainment has once again dashed the hopes of many Bloodborne 2 hopefuls by choosing to bring a remastered version of Days Gone. The 2019 open-world survival title had many fans but ultimately failed to live up to the hype.
Days Gone was praised by many for its excellent take on a zombie-infested, post-apocalyptic version of Oregon which set the stage for protagonist Deacon St. John to brave terrifying hordes of zombies and other threats as he searched for clues about his wife Sarah. Its premise and unique gameplay mechanics were a mark of Bend Studio’s ability to create a compelling open world while Deacon’s story proved poignant and full of narrative twists and turns.
However, technical issues, repetitive side content, and a lengthy development cycle were important factors that proved obstacles to its success, ultimately resulting in Sony turning down a pitch from Bend Studio for a sequel in 2021.
Bloodborne, on the other hand, continues to remain among Sony’s most successful exclusives while also being considered by many as one of the greatest games ever made by Miyazaki’s FromSoftware. It has continues to remain relevant despite being released nearly ten years ago with many gamers being very vocal about their hopes for a remaster or sequel – a decision that only Sony could make considering it owns the rights to the game.
Sony’s Surprising State of Play Lineup
While there was a lot to like about Sony’s recently concluded State of Play event, the announcement of Days Gone Remastered has left many PlayStation fans disappointed that a sequel or remaster of Bloodborne remains as elusive as ever. It is a situation that would seem all too familiar to fans of Miyazaki’s action-packed horror title considering that the previous State of Play event announced a remaster of Horizon Zero Dawn to their chagrin.

However, things seemed different this time around considering Sony’s new stake in FromSoftware alongside its recent takedown of a very popular Bloodborne mod, which many hoped would mean that the studio was finally beginning to take notice of what its fans really wanted in the wake of its recent change in leadership.
With Bloodborne very close to reaching a decade of popularity since its release, Sony can – and perhaps must – consider a sequel to the game or at the very least, a remaster that could take advantage of the raw power that the PlayStation 5 Pro brings to the table. It would certainly be a better choice than Days Gone despite Bend Studio’s stellar efforts at creating a title that was solid yet problematic for Sony when it was released.
For the moment, however, it seems that Bloodborne fans must remain content with the version of Yharnam that has probably become very familiar to them even if it still is terrifying.
