Bloodborne's take on the Holy Moonlight Sword was well received.

The First Steps Towards Bloodborne 2 Have Been Taken

It is an interesting time for Bloodborne fans with Sony becoming a majority shareholder in FromSoftware, the Japanese studio that has single-handedly crafted an entire genre of games and inspired countless others to follow in its footsteps.

While franchises like Armored Core and Dark Souls have been major successes for Hidetaka Miyazaki over the years, Bloodborne is a title that has stayed in the hearts and minds of modern gamers owing to a combat loop that refuses to get old being supported by a world that is as terrifying as it is engaging.

Bloodborne’s impact on the Soulslike genre cannot be overstated considering how Miyazaki’s take on Lovecraftian horror has had its fans pleading with Sony for a sequel or even a remake of the classic title. Several titles have attempted to recreate its fast-paced action with varying degrees of success with OverBorder Studio’s Thymesia being a great example.

However, with Sony owning the rights to Miyazaki’s excellent title, the possibility of a trip back to Yharnam seemed a distant prospect in the decade that has passed since its 2015 release. Until now, that is.

With Sony’s new stake in FromSoftware and a recent DMCA takedown of a very popular mod for the original Bloodborne, news that the Japanese behemoth is set to publish and distribute future FromSoftware titles is an indication of good things to come for gamers who have wanted to revisit the Hunter’s Dream for a very long time.

Sony would be hard-pressed to avoid a trip back to Yharnam in the wake of these new developments considering how Bloodborne has retained a spot among PlayStation’s most successful exclusives, holding its own against franchises like God of War and the Horizon series.

Considering the original game’s success and Sony’s increased stake in FromSoftware, Bloodborne 2 is a logical step for the studio after Miyazaki’s successful outing with Elden Ring. It would seem that the Hunter is all set to brush the dust of their trick weapons and guns as they get set for a return to Yharnam’s terrifying streets once again.
