PlayStation Network Status Sends Fans Into a Frenzy “I’ll probably never turn it back on”

Unfortunately for PS5 and PS4 gamers everywhere, the PlayStation Network status is almost universally bad, with the service down for 12+ hours (at the time of writing), and no sign or announcement to indicate that’ll change any time soon. Understandably, with what it means for gamers when PSN is down, they’re not taking it well.

PlayStation Network Status – Is PSN Still Down?

Due to the modern era of gaming, with the ‘always online’ requirement being such a widespread feature, gamers on Sony’s systems can’t currently play a whole lot of their games.

In fact, beyond some older games that predate this, or opt out, they can’t so anything. The majority of PS4/PS5s are expensive paperweights until the PlayStation Network Status changes to something more positive.

As time goes on, the similarities to the last big outage of the PlayStation Network are being noted, where the service was down for a massive 23 days in 2011. Online services were down, if you were lucky enough to be able to sign in, you couldn’t play online or purchase games, but you could at least boot up a single player game to pass the time, not like today. The difference? Always online wasn’t such a built in feature like these days.

Patience is wearing thin with gamers worldwide now, as the continuing outage proves too much for some, including potentially replacing PS5s for Xbox Series X|S’s:

And it continues to reignite discussions surrounding the ‘always online feature that many developers and platforms posit is for security, all the while games continue to be pirated all the same.

Outages like this are to be expected from time to time, but for the length of time and the breadth of systems affected, Sony will have to pull something big out of the bag to win favor with a huge group of loyal users that are aggrieved at the inconvenience. Add in to that that PlayStation Network is a paid service, and the problem becomes even more complicated for Sony.

For now, we the PSN outage continues, but as soon as we get a different outcome and the PlayStation Network Status changes for us to all get back to what we like doing best, we’ll be sure to let you know.
