11 Bit Studios is back with a brand new game, and the question often comes to mind is: Is The Alters Coming to Game Pass? Fortunately, Xbox Game Pass subscribers can play this new survival title on June 13, 2025. This is a good move for the developers to grant the gaming community easier and more convenient access to The Alters and to get the word out as fast as possible.
Is The Alters Coming to Game Pass?
Xbox Game Pass has been a blessing to the masses, especially since it has a large library of games. 11 Bit Studios wanted to give as many players access to The Alters, and this was a no-brainer decision. As an independent developer and publisher, being seen or noticed by the larger gaming community can be a challenge. Through Xbox Game Pass, players can easily see this title and try it for themselves.
If the developers decided against a day one release on Xbox Game Pass, it could only be a matter of time before the game made its way to the streaming service. Microsoft has an existing deal with the developers, and this is mutually beneficial for both parties involved. 11 Bit Studios can give The Alters the boost it needs to reach more earmarks, and a potential increase in sales and subscriber count for Microsoft. So in short, is The Alters coming to Game Pass? Yes.
Jan’s Alternate Variants Are His Key to Survival
Stranded on a hostile planet alone, players can create different variants, or alters, of Jan to increase their chances of survival. Each alter has different skills and personalities from the original version based on certain life choices. Some of the alters are talented engineers, some are natural gardeners with a green thumb, and some can be too difficult to work with.
Jan is essentially working with people with identical DNA but with different life experiences. Reflections of who he could have been if he had gone down a specific route earlier in his life. Alex Jordan, who plays every alter of Jan, spoke about the themes of the game and how it drives every alter to do their task to survive an impending doom.
We want this feeling of impending doom, and you’re fighting against something, you’re fighting against time. You know the choices you make in the game mean more because you have to make choices at the moment. It will make the choices more difficult, you’re like “Well, I will never be able to go back and correct this, it’s a tough choice, it has to be made now”, and in life, all the hardest choices truly are made because of time.
It can be tricky to be stranded on a hostile planet without anyone else to rely on but yourself. Jan knew that surviving alone would be impossible and counted on the Alters to pull their weight while thinking back on how his life would have been if he had made certain decisions. It is a multi-faceted tale of survival and self-reflection worth experiencing on any platform.
The Alters will be released on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC via Steam, and Xbox Game Pass on June 13, 2025.
