Gotham Knights was released in 2022 for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, and it was an interesting take on the Bat family. Hardcore fans of the DC franchise looked at the game and thought one performance had a striking resemblance to another adaptation in live-action; however, the voice actor claims it was all a coincidence.

The gaming community had high hopes for Gotham Knights; unfortunately, it failed to resonate with the fans. While the game had its share of shortcomings, the same can’t be said about the voice acting performances. Each cast member brought their best to the table and sent the gaming community into the streets of Gotham as they fight Batman’s rogues gallery. One of those villains in Oswald Cobblepot, better known as the Penguin.

This villain has appeared in a few different projects, including a live-action version set in Earth-2 played by the talented Colin Farrell who made his debut in The Batman. Both DC projects were released within the same year, and most fans surmised that the video game version took inspiration or borrowed notes from Farrell’s performance for brand synergy, but it couldn’t be further from the truth.

Elias Toufexis used an American Gangster approach for his version and claimed it was before they had seen Farrell’s performance. It was purely coincidental and a safe direction for the character, who is meant to be a mob boss.

Toufexis and Farrell nailed their performance as the Penguin and set the bar high. Farrell left a strong impression after his debut and was given an opportunity and more material to work with for a limited series with HBO. Perhaps Farrell could look into the game and borrow inspiration from Toufexis to honor his work in a future season or movie.
