Thunderbolts Post Credits Scene Explained

At the end of the Thunderbolts*, the team was rebranded as the New Avengers, sanctioned by the US Government, and Sam Wilson’s Captain America isn’t too happy about it. The team seemingly moved into Val’s Watchtower, formerly known as the Avengers Tower, owned by the late Tony Stark, and the team caught wind of a spacecraft coming into Earth’s orbit.

Alien invasions are another Tuesday for the citizens in this universe; however, the team noticed the ship was branded with the Fantastic Four’s logo. The New Avengers will likely be the first responders and think Marvel’s First Family could be stirring up trouble across space and time, but will eventually realize they are allies against a much larger threat.

What Does It Mean for the Future and Doomsday/Secret Wars?

The Thunderbolts post-credit scene suggests that Doomsday is approaching, and the Fantastic Four’s arrival on Earth-616 could be the catalyst. While details about the plot of Fantastic Four: The First Steps are limited, the trailers confirmed that the film will take place in an alternate reality where they are the only superheroes in their respective universe and that Sue Storm could be pregnant with her first child.

Marvel Studios hosted a lengthy live stream announcing the cast of Avengers: Doomsday, and every member of the Thunderbolts and Fantastic Four is present and accounted for. Perhaps the two teams will interact early in the film and realize the Multiverse is in peril.

The post-credit scene is on the same level as Avengers: Infinity War, where the film teased the arrival of Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers, better known as Captain Marvel. Perhaps the Fantastic Four will have a similar role and become key players in saving the Multiverse and helping the Avengers defeat Doctor Doom.

How Many Credit Scenes Does Thunderbolts* Have?

Thunderbolts* will feature two post-credits scenes. The first scene doesn’t have much weight or bearing on the team’s future, but the second one, which featured the Fantastic Four’s spaceship, is described as being in the same league as earlier films from the Infinity Saga. The Thunderbolts, or New Avengers, will be staying for the long run and could become valuable players for the fight ahead.
