Recently, I got the opportunity to try out the demo for Mio: Memories in Orbit as it approached its official release date of June 4th, 2025. During my time with the demo, I was able to explore the unique world that the game inhabits as well as defeat some incredibly well-designed and tough enemies.

The world of Mio: Memories in Orbit is a rather interesting setting, as it takes place within a massive technological ark that is full of odd locations, such as an icy tundra, a forest, and even watery areas, which comes as quite a surprise given the location the game is set in.

Unfortunately, during my time with the demo, I wasn’t able to explore all of these areas. Still, the areas I did explore were very detailed, as each location was full of life to the point of even having characters walking around in the background that could not be interacted with.

This allowed Mio: Memories in Orbit to feel more alive than it was while also showing how not every entity you come across within the title is ready to kill you and send you back to the respawn point.

Combat Systems

While playing Mio: Memories in Orbit, I couldn’t help but compare it to Hollow Knight in terms of its combat, as it shared a lot of similarities. However, that being said, Mio: Memories of Orbit does stand out on its own with its combat system, as it can be very difficult once you start, but easy to master after some practice.

As with all Metroidvania titles, the game aims to slowly acquire new gear to help you in terms of combat and exploration, and Mio: Memories in Orbit follows suit with this as it provides the player with plenty of pieces of equipment to help them on their journey.

One item that I came across during the demo was the use of a grapple that could allow me to traverse the map more easily or, in combat, grapple towards the enemy for an attack. This allowed for a lot more opportunities as well as stronger combos to take on bosses.

As well as equipment, Mio: Memories in Orbit also utilizes a perk system that allows the player to add or subtract bonuses to their character in an effort to improve their combat proficiency. During the demo, I sadly only got to try a few of these perks, but the ones I tried did provide a big boost to my gameplay experience while improving my combative skills.

The Main Character and Enemies in Mio: Memories in Orbit

Although there is very little I could find about the main character during the demo, it is clear that the character we control is a creation of the AI that is controlling the ark in an attempt to try and repair the ark and return it to a controlled state.

Understandably, due to this being a demo, it is likely that more lore will be revealed once the game is released and players can access the full title, but for now, there is very little information we can provide about the main character.

However, the enemies we can talk a fair amount about, as there are numerous enemy types I came across during my time with the demo, along with a boss that challenged me in every way.

A lot of the enemies proved to be quite challenging at the start, as they had very obscure and hard-to-predict attack patterns, and with the very minimal amount of health you have at the start, this does prove to be a challenge to survive long enough to progress in the story.

This can be even more daunting once the bosses arrive, as these enemies are relentless with their attacks, allowing only a few seconds to deal damage while also having to be careful not to overcommit and put yourself in a situation that could end in a defeat (something I did often).

Final Thoughts on Mio: Memories in Orbit

Overall, I found the demo of Mio: Memories in Orbit to be very fun to play, allowing for a unique challenge that had me going back for more the longer I played. With each enemy blocking my path, I would endeavor to find a new way to avoid or defeat said enemies, allowing for complete control of how I played the game, which is something that I find quite fun.

Even though there was only a small amount of story within the demo, it does look like it will be an interesting story that will grip me from start to finish while also tugging at my heartstrings.
