UPDATE
Since the original announcement, CAPCOM has announced that signups for Resident Evil Survival Unit are now open at this LINK.

Get ready for a new survival adventure in the popular horror franchise that Shinji Mikami and Tokuro Fujiwara created. The game is called Resident Evil Survival Unit, and it will be available to play for free on iOS and android smartphones. The game’s executive producer, Shinji Hashimoto, released a 25-minute announcement video on YouTube, where he also mentioned that he has been working on this title for a long time. Additionally, it isn’t simply for the RE fans but the newcomers too.

He said,

We felt that the game’s unique ‘survival element’ of surviving with only limited resources fits very well with strategy games. Because of that, we chose the strategy genre that allows players worldwide to enjoy the world of Resident Evil with others and a different perspective to the other games.

The series does have other video games available for mobile phones, including Outbreak Survive, Genesis, Mercenaries Vs., and more.

Fan Favorite Resident Evil Characters Will Return

This is the most interesting part of the upcoming game. Fan favorite characters, including Jill Valentine, Chris Redfield, Leon Kennedy, and more, will return in the game. However, it is set in a parallel universe in the franchise, where players will make their own squads to survive in this world. Every character will come with his/her own unique skillset to help fend off the monsters. Speaking of monsters, there’s a new one here called Mortem.

It will be released later this year, and hopefully, this will be something that players can enjoy for a long time, unlike Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile, which created a hype around the globe but failed to stay for long on smartphones, mainly due to performance issues and high-end requirements.

While we are getting this title for mobiles, the world is waiting for the next mainline game in the franchise, Resident Evil Requiem, which will bring a new protagonist named Grace Ashcroft and is set after the events of the third mainline game, Nemesis. Even before its release, it became a massive hit, as over a million players have already wishlisted it.
