Stellar Blade PC Release More Popular Than on PS5 in Ridiculous Stat

Stellar Blade was a good first attempt for Shift Up in developing a project for the PlayStation 5. The gaming community fell in love with the game’s straightforward narrative, but the combat and character design were the icing on the cake. While this game was a console exclusive for the past year, it was recently ported to PC, and fans are loving it.

Most PC ports of PlayStation titles have been a hit or miss. This doesn’t seem to be a problem for Stellar Blade, considering it reached an impressive milestone rather quickly. The numbers do not lie, and this is one of the many cases where porting to different platforms is the right move forward.

Sony Interactive Entertainment has been sitting comfortably in the previous generation thanks to console exclusivity. It was not long ago when high-profile titles like God of War, The Last of Us, Uncharted, Horizon, and Marvel’s Spider-Man leaped to the PC storefronts, which raised a few eyebrows but ultimately made sense from a business perspective. These titles are much older, and not all of them had stellar launches, which made the release of Stellar Blade for PC much more surprising.

The game was released as a timed exclusive for the PlayStation 5 in April 2024 and received rave reviews; however, the player base didn’t grow as fast as expected. According to Ruliweb, Stellar Blade PC reached 1 million players in three days, an impressive milestone. Other exclusives took their sweet time to achieve higher numbers.

While the combat is fluid and is reminiscent of the traditional Soulslike genre, most players have their eyes on the prize. Shift Up took a bold and daring approach to character design, and while this wasn’t the developers’ intention, it did help their case and land this project on the radars of casual gamers. The developers even added a new feature showing Eve kicking the camera away from Peeping Toms.

The PC community will likely find a way to work around it and dial this content to a new level with mods. This isn’t the kind of attention or publicity Shift Up was aiming for, but at the end of the day, the daring character designs allow Stellar Blade to be recognized by the masses.
