Total Chaos, the next title from publisher Apogee Entertainment and developer Trigger Happy Interactive, received a new trailer during IGN Live, showcasing exactly what is in store for us once it releases on July 24th, 2025. It’s safe to say that, like a lot of you, we’ll be playing this psychological horror game from behind a cushion or another equally safe place.
Per Apogee Entertainment:
The new Total Chaos trailer dives into the creepy abyss of Fort Oasis, a desolate wasteland once considered paradise by its residential coal miner community. A shadow looms over the island, inhibiting a sense of madness, which can only be described as the feeling of constantly being watched. Monstrosities lurk around every corner of the island’s heart, trapping anybody daring enough to enter the void.
While shooting and bludgeoning through these twisted foes, players will unearth fragments of forgotten lives to piece together the chilling mystery of Fort Oasis’ demise (and their connection to it) before their sanity runs dry. Total Chaos is a pulse-pounding, atmospheric nightmare that blends different eras of survival horror hallmarks — featuring classically-inspired resource management, methodical melee combat and gunplay, and haunting visuals with grotesque environments and creatures.

Originally conceived as an award-winning total conversion mod of DOOM II, Total Chaos has been reimagined into a modern standalone experience, amplifying its chilling atmosphere and relentless tension for a new generation of players.
Key Features of Total Chaos:
- Immersive Atmosphere: Explore the decayed ruins of Fort Oasis across nine harrowing chapters, each drenched in dread, plunging you deeper into its oppressive, decaying world.
- Environmental Storytelling: Uncover the island’s darkest secrets and confront your own fractured past through cryptic notes, haunting visuals, and unsettling encounters.
- Crafting for Survival: Build and upgrade weapons using scavenged materials to stand a chance against the relentless terrors stalking you.
- Face Freakish Foes: Engage against horrific creatures, each with their own deadly behaviors and strategies.
- Resource Management: Navigate a deep inventory system where every item matters—your survival hinges on careful choices, crafting the perfect weapon, and quick thinking on the fly.
With a VR version of Total Chaos also confirmed to follow shortly after the full release on Steam, it’s fair to say that 2025 and 2026 may be two of the best years ever for psychological horror fans. The reveals of horror-based games over the last weekend have far surpassed what many expected, and with the quality of the indie and AA developers quickly catching up to the AAA space, we’re in a position to be thoroughly scared. All. The. Time.
Total Chaos will launch on Windows PC via Steam on July 24, 2025, with VR support coming after launch. You can wishlist and play the demo now on Steam.
