Mafia: The Old Country isn’t far away, with fans desperate to get their hands on the prequel, and developer Hangar 13 is certainly making sure that excitement hits as high a level as possible, with a new dev diary hitting the internet showcasing the graphical side of the studio’s next adventure.
On a backdrop of gorgeous visuals, Game Director Alex Cox says:
“Mafia is a game that’s always defined by its cinematic presentation. It was important that the game has the same production values that players have come to expect from a Mafia game, and in fact, that we’ve managed to elevate those.”
As the just over four minute dev diary shows, as well as the multiple trailers at this point, Mafia: The Old Country certainly looks the part in both cinematic presentation and graphical fidelity that Alex Cox and his team are aiming for, but the question is how it performs as a game, compared to that of the previous entries.
Known about for three years, ever since Hangar 13 general manager Roman Hladík confirmed that a new Mafia project was in development, the anticipation has been growing, and it doesn’t look to be slowing down with this constant drip feed of dev diaries.
Mafia: The Old Country is a prequel to the original Mafia trilogy, a gritty mob story set in 1900s Sicily. Players will take on the role of Enzo Favara, who rises through the ranks of the Cosa Nostra, learning about the values of family and loyalty all the while exploring the origins of organized crime, with authenticity at its heart – including fully localized voice acting in Sicilian.
Mafia: The Old Country launches August 8, 2025, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, and is available for pre-order and pre-purchase now.
