Wuchang takes on one of Wuchang: Fallen Feathers' deadly bosses.

Wuchang: Fallen Feathers Looks to Continue Black Myth: Wukong’s Chinese Dominance with New Gameplay Footage You Can’t Miss

Wuchang: Fallen Feathers has finally received a new trailer, making fans of the Soulslike genre jump for joy in the wake of Game Science’s success with Black Myth: Wukong in 2024. Bringing exciting new dynamics and an extremely nimble heroine to its take on the later years of the Chinese Ming dynasty, the game is shaping up to be a unique spin on the tried and tested Soulslike formula.

Developed by Lenzee and published by 505Games, Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is the latest Unreal Engine 5-based title to grace the Soulslike genre, and is shaping up to be an excellent addition to its ranks if its latest gameplay is any indication.

Wuchang: Fallen Feathers Brings Interesting Twists to Soulslike Traditions

It’s clear that Lenzee has put a lot of effort into making Wuchang: Fallen Feathers stand apart from its inspirations. Following the adventures of Wuchang, a pirate with amnesia who suffers from a deadly condition called the Feathering Disease (hence the title), the game blends the usual Soulslike mechanics with a combat loop that caters to a variety of playstyles.

With twenty-five weapons and five different weapon types to choose from, Wuchang is clearly spoiled for choice in the many ways she can take on several deadly bosses showcased in the new footage seen below:

She also gets to choose from a variety of spells, paving the way for a lot of different builds that make use of her combat skills along with the Skyborn Might she receives from her condition, allowing her to manifest her innate demonic potential with deadly efficacy. However, an interesting twist shows Wuchang forced to take on a demonic manifestation of herself should she fall in battle – an interesting twist on the typical loss of accumulated XP seen in other Soulslike titles.

The Start of Lenzee’s Soulslike Journey

Just like Black Myth: Wukong’s excellent take on the Monkey King’s legend, Lenzee has similarly chosen an interesting period of Chinese history for its take on the Soulslike genre that has allowed it to create enemies and bosses that are as deadly as its protagonist.

Wuchang: Fallen Feathers seems to go beyond its counterpart with the addition of different weapon types in contrast to the Destined One’s reliance on his Bo Staff. The gameplay demo showcases a world that is teeming with stunningly detailed vistas populated by enemies from Chinese myths and legends hell-bent on sending Wuchang back to the nearest shrine.

It will be interesting to dive into the lands of Shu when Wuchang: Fallen Feathers releases later this year. We’re especially excited to meet the giant Panda that acts as the game’s blacksmith where Wuchang can upgrade her expansive arsenal!

Wuchang: Fallen Feathers will be available on the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC and will be a day-one release on Xbox Game Pass.
