Red Dead Redemption 2 has been out for quite some time, and there is no denying that Rockstar Games delivered a great and timeless video game experience. The game developers spent years working on this project, and to see other animators pay homage in any way is a testament to their long-lasting impact, influence, and success.

The game has a loyal fan base, and eagle-eyed viewers can immediately tell if a certain project is paying tribute in any capacity, especially during the latest animated Spider-Man series on Disney Plus.

During episode 9 of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, fans caught a quick glimpse of something called Blue Fin Breakdown 2. This might go over the heads of casual viewers and non-gamers, but it doesn’t change the fact that the font used directly referenced Rockstar Games’ Red Dead Redemption 2. The multiverse is a massive playground for artists to get weird and creative, and this little easter egg is meant to show how much this game inspired the animators behind the show.

The animated series is set outside the mainline Marvel Cinematic Universe continuity, meaning the showrunners can do whatever they want with the character and that reality. Perhaps the Blue Fin Breakdown 2 is an upcoming video game within the universe of what a Red Dead Redemption 2 game would look like if the developers went down the route with pirates instead of cowboys and outlaws.

The fact that a 7-year-old game gets this much respect and attention is proof of the impressive work the developers achieved. While there is a possibility that someone working on the show loved the game, this could inspire the developers to try something different. Some fans are already pondering what a pirate game from Rockstar Games would look like, and this could give the developers the push to craft something new beyond the worlds of Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption.

It is rare to see animators from different mediums pay homage but at the end of the day, video games and animated series are made by talented artists inspired by other art. There is no telling what other popular pop culture references will be creatively implanted and twisted in the second season of Marvel Animation’s Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man.
