12 Baldur’s Gate 3 Mods to Make Your Patch 8 Playthrough More ‘Interesting’

With Larian Studios bringing official mod support to Baldur’s Gate 3 with its penultimate update to the epic RPG, the game’s thriving modding community quickly got to work.

Bringing a whole lot of options for players looking to freshen up their playthroughs with a unique look, incredible weapons, a host of new classes and subclasses, or a few quality-of-life changes, Baldur’s Gate 3 modders have been flooding Larian with new mods for console versions while the PC version continues to enjoy a regular stream of additions to its already long list of mods.

With Patch 8 currently under stress testing and an official release quite close on the horizon, here are 12 Baldur’s Gate 3 mods that could make your next playthrough feel like an entirely different experience altogether!

Editor’s Note
While there are several customization mods that you could go for which add new faces, hairstyles, tattoos, beards, horns (for tieflings), and even a few NPC faces for you to mix and match with, we recommend picking the ones that work best for the character you have in mind and have thus refrained from including any of them on this list.

With Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 8 adding new subclasses for each playable class in the game, this mod could work very well with others on this list, making your character battle-ready from the minute they climb out of their pod on the Nautiloid Ship.

It packs a full set of armor with varying rarities along with weapons for each class in the game with unique effects that work very well with each class while complementing each of the game’s recruitable companions. Simply pick up the two chests that spawn in at the Tutorial Chest and slap on the corresponding armor and weapons to give your character a distinct edge in combat, making the early parts of the story a breeze to get through while remaining competitive enough to take on some of the later act’s tougher enemies.

11. UnlockLevelCurve

This mod essentially raises the level cap for your character and companions past level 12 all the way up to level 20. It comes complete with unique additions to each class per level, giving you more incentives to explore Faerun in its entirety as you keep leveling up in your pursuit of the Absolute’s forces.

It works very well with the new class mods that are built with a level cap of 20 in mind and can be quite handy when multiclassing with Patch 8’s new subclasses, giving you a lot of freedom to create builds that make the most of its new additions while also allowing you to try out some of the new classes that Baldur’s Gate 3 modders have brought to the table.

This is a perfect addition to the UnlockLevelCurve mod, allowing your character to earn XP faster as you experience all that Faerun has to offer one more time with Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 8. It’s especially useful if you choose to explore one of the new subclasses that Larian is adding to the game, allowing you to check out all of the new abilities they bring to the table that much faster and perhaps switch over to another class if you feel like it.

What’s more, it can work very well with a few other mods on this list, allowing you to experience the game in a way that feels fresh and perhaps more challenging than Larian may have intended.

9. Extra Encounters and Minibosses in Baldur’s Gate 3

For those of you who have explored every corner of Faerun multiple times before, this mod adds a whole bunch of new encounters to the map of each act! Many of the new enemies are quite the challenge and you will need all the new tools that Patch 8’s new subclasses bring to the table to take them down.

The Treasure Trove armor and weapons can make these new battles a tad easier if you combine them with custom difficulty settings to make your time with Patch 8 a bit easier.

8. More Enemies in Basic Fights

This mod works very well with the Extra Encounters mod, adding more enemies for you to take on in each of the main campaign’s battles. It could make those Honour Mode runs that much harder if you decide to take on Baldur’s Gate 3’s highest difficulty on what could very well be one of your final playthroughs of the game.

However, using some of the equipment mods we’ve listed below could make these fights a lot easier on higher difficulties. It’s all up to you, just as Larian intended!

7. Increased Party Limit in Baldur’s Gate 3

This nifty mod lets you increase your party limit from Larian’s default of four to any number you may like, allowing you to conveniently take all of your companions with you and never miss out on an opportunity for some unique dialogue or quest-related objectives as you go about your Patch 8 playthrough in Baldur’s Gate 3.

It can prove quite handy when trying out the new crossplay feature, allowing you and your friends to take the fight to the Absolute’s Chosen in ways that were simply not possible before Patch 7. While there is the matter of dismissing extra characters before you take a Long Rest, there’s no denying that this mod combines convenience and incredible firepower when taking on some of the game’s harder fights (we’re looking at you, Myrkul!).

6. Tactician Enhanced

While the Increase Party Limit mod lets you bring every recruitable companion you have in your camp with you into the field, doing so could trivialize most of the game’s encounters even with the Extra Encounters and More Enemies mods in place.

The Tactician Enhanced mod solves that problem, rebalancing the health pools, combat resources such as actions and bonus actions, and many other parameters on the game’s enemies the more your party grows in size. It comes with a ton of options that let you tweak the experience to your liking and is a great way to test the effectiveness of any new subclass builds that you may come up with during your next visit to Faerun.

5. Carry_Weight_Extra

With all of the gear from mods like Treasure Trove, you might find that your character gets overburdened a little too easily. This mod is an effective solution to that problem, allowing you to hoard anything you find during your travels with impunity.

It can be very convenient when you’re out recruiting each new companion, negating the need to visit your Traveller’s Chest at your camp every time you add a new companion to your ranks as you can simply dive into their character sheets and equip an effective loadout before continuing to explore Faerun’s memorable landscapes to your heart’s content.

4. Plasma Weapons – Darkh Set

If playing through Baldur’s Gate 3 as a Jedi or Sith Lord is something you fancy, this mod lets you dress up your character with armor sets that bring the best of the Light or Dark side of the Force to your fingertips along very handy spells that can let you unleash your inner Darth Vader on the Absolute’s forces.

The great part is that all of the gear levels up along with your character, making the experience feel natural and balanced. You could always use the amulet that comes with the backpack to unlock all of the mod’s abilities from the get-go and begin to harness the Force as early as the Nautiloid ship.

3. Dark Urge – Slayer Equipment and Spells

The Dark Urge is one of Baldur's Gate 3's most popular Origins.

For those of you who would like to play as the Dark Urge one last time, this mod lets you create a very overpowered character in just a few minutes, allowing you to indulge the darkest of your Bhaalist fantasies with impunity.

With a selection of armor, and two very powerful daggers that you can dual-wield with devastating effects, this mod does make you more powerful than even Orin the Red but is the perfect way to experience the best of a Bhaalist acolyte in Baldur’s Gate 3.

2. CL_Dastardly Accoutrement – Rogue Gear

If trying out the new Swashbuckler subclass is something you simply cannot wait to do once Patch 8 releases for Baldur’s Gate 3, look no further than this mod which gives you an excellent selection of gear to make the most of the Rogue’s agility and excellent DPS.

Combine it with the Shinobi subclass mod to truly experience the best of what a Rogue has to offer or better yet, multiclass as a Swashbuckler and Shinobi to have a truly unique character to take on your next Patch 8 playthrough.

1. CL_Inconstant Moon – Cleric Gear

If Shadowheart is a constant presence in your party or if you fancy a gander at what the new Cleric subclass has to offer, your character is sure to benefit from the wide selection of armor sets and weapons that this mod has to offer.

With gear that specifically makes the best of each domain that the Cleric can make use of, it is an excellent choice for players who would like to take on a support role in their party.

While these are a few mods that can make your next playthrough feel entirely different, we highly recommend treating them as a starting point when selecting the mods that best suit your plans for a new playthrough in Baldur‘s Gate 3. Honorable mentions include the Faerun Colors mod and Fear Taylor’s Camp Clothes in order to get your character looking as fashionable as they can from the first time you make camp!

There are several new classes and subclasses that you can check out and perhaps mix and match with all of the new ones that are being added to the game in Patch 8. There’s a reason that Larian has been hard at work to approve as many mods as they can every week for console players, after all!
