You’ve just met and killed the Ruthless Archer group, completing the Purge the Sect Tale, you’re searching for The Hunt, Hunter of the Order, and now you’ve come across a huge Sha-Chi Furnace in a place that you’ve been constantly warned not to go to. Typical Phantom Blade Zero things.
If you’re here, you’ve found the opening for the Sha-Chi Furnace at the very bottom of the Sha-Chi Tower in Weeping Creek Valley, but can’t find the item you need to unlock it? Don’t worry, that’s what we’re here for. By the end of this guide, you’ll have found the key, taken the Primal Stone inside and given it to the Shadow Warden, starting A Severed Mindseal Tale, and completing the first part of it, in Phantom Blade Zero.
How to Complete A Severed Mindseal Tale in Phantom Blade Zero
Starting A Severed Mindseal Tale
Some things in Phantom Blade Zero are signposted, others are not. One of those that isn’t is where to find the Sha-Chi Furnace Inspection Crank, but that’s what we’re here to help with.
You begin your time at the very bottom of the temple, and it’s clear that you need to go up. There’s three or four destroyed floors you’ll need to fight your way through, with new enemies sprouting up, including bronze-covered monks, and an enemy with a bomb for its head.
Once you’ve beaten them, you’ll emerge on the top floor and see the sky above you. There’s a bell nearby, make sure to grab this so you can fast travel back to the Valley Sha-Chi Tower Summit at will, as you’ll need this later, but then chat to the Shadow Warden ominously looking into the distance. It turns out he’s a friend!
He’ll explain how he’s able to chat to you, rather than being controlled by Zuo Shang like the rest of his compatriots, and then ask you to find the Primal Stone, an item that’ll break the mind control. This starts A Severed Mindseal Tale, and you can now go on your way.
Finding the Sha-Chi Furnace Inspection Crank
Continue round and up through the Tower, and you’ll eventually come to a ladder you need to climb down. In the far distance you’ll see a faceless Shadow Warden, this one much less nice, and he’ll attempt to kill you as soon as he sees you. Dispatch with him, and it turns out he’s the carrier of the Sha-Chi Furnace Inspection Crank!
Now you’re going to want to climb down the ladder in front of you, and head right. If you head left, you’re going out of the Tower and onwards towards The Hunt, Hunter of the Order.
Going right will bring you to a ladder, one you may have found earlier but from the other side. Knock it down and you’ll realise you’re back on the bottom floor of the Tower. Head over to the Furnace, and using your ned Sha-Chi Furnace Inspection Crank, place it in the hole and a little door will open up in front of you.
This is where the Primal Stone is. Grab it, and then take the Sha-Chi Furnace Inspection Crank back out, before heading to the Valley Sha-Chi Tower 1st Floor bell outside. Fast travel back up to the Summit, and where the friendly Shadow Warden is waiting.
Returning to the Shadow Warden
As mentioned, you’re going to want to save yourself time by fast-travelling to the top of the Summit, rather than working your way through the levels again.

Once you’re up there, interact with the Shadow Warden again, handing over the Primal Stone to him, and a small cutscene will take place. He’ll ingest the Primal Stone and then thank Soul, before promising they’d see each other again. This isn’t the last time you’ll see him, quite the opposite.
