Horizon Zero Dawn was a breath of fresh air from Guerrilla Games, and apparently, some believed it was too good to remain tethered to gaming consoles. It is a new age where high-profile video game IPs are now becoming the new farming ground for Hollywood to bring to the big screen for new audiences to enjoy. While this particular franchise had a rocky start for a live-action adaptation, new details suggest it is moving faster than expected.
The Horizon Zero Dawn Movie Has a Script and Release Window

Amidst the ongoing battle with Tencent over ripping off this franchise through Light of Motiram, new details have emerged over adjacent projects. PlayStation Productions has been on a roll recently, with successful projects like HBO’s The Last of Us, Gran Turismo, and Uncharted. However, Guerrilla Games’ IP is on the more fantasy-science side, which means it will be more demanding in visuals.
According to a recent report, Asad Qizilbash revealed that there is already a script for the live-action adaptation of Horizon Zero Dawn.
“We are in development for a film based on Horizon in partnership with Columbia Pictures”
Originally, there was a partnership between Sony and Netflix for a TV show; however, the deal did not materialize, and Sony went in a different direction. Rather than partnering with others, PlayStation Productions collaborated with Columbia Pictures for a feature-length film.
“We already have a working script and are actively searching for a director, with the goal of shooting the picture in 2026 and releasing it in 2027. The live-action film follows the recent collaborations between Columbia Pictures and PlayStation Productions on the 2022 film Uncharted and the 2023 film Gran Turismo.”
Qizilbash also cited the previous collaborations as their reasoning for the upcoming movie. While fans have an idea of when the Horizon Zero Dawn movie will release, which is in 2027, there is still no word on who is on board with the project. Qizilbash reveals they are actively searching for a director, but some fans have already started sharing their fan casts, such as David Harbour as Erend.
