If your’e not aware of Screenbound, where have you been? Supposedly the first ‘5D platforming experience’ from Crescent Moon Games, which combines platforming in both 2D and 3D environments at the same time. We spoke to Game Director Josh Presseisen about all things Screenbound, including why they won’t use AI during development, where the idea came from, and how he feels releasing his game during arguably one of the biggest and best months of gaming, perhaps ever, amongst other things.
When I mentioned the busy September period, a period that has become something of an internet meme thanks to every game crowding itself into September and October due to the release of Grand Theft Auto 6 on November 19th, Presseisen said:
“We are very confident in our release date because we’re confident in our game. Every time I have released a game, I get put up against other games that are releasing, but things can change and release dates can get pushed back. So you don’t really know what is going to come out on your release day. I stopped worrying about this many years ago because to me, it feels like a roll of the dice. Could we get buried? Yes. But could we also succeed and be widely seen amongst the other games releasing in September? Also yes.”
It cannot be argued, you have to appreciate his fervour and straight forwardness, and, while it may be pragmatic, it certainly shows some belief in Screenbound to be so overtly unbothered about releasing alongside the likes of The Blood of Dawnwalker, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, Halloween the Game, and Marvel’s Wolverine, amongst others. With Screenbound being so unique in not only its concept but its art direction, it’ll be interesting to see how it fares against the perceived ‘bigger boys’, but its clear Presseisen isn’t as worried as you’d expect.
Screenbound is due for release on September 10th on PlayStation 5, XBOX Series X|S, and PC.
