After so many years of waiting for a sequel to the famous Alien Isolation, players can finally sigh a small relief as Alien Isolation 2 moves closer and closer to being released, with more information being announced as the days move on.

Although there isn’t too much information released regarding Alien Isolation 2, I was granted the opportunity to try the game’s prologue out at Gamescom as I explored the world the game will be set on, played through some of the game’s haunting world, did a bit of stealthing, and finally came up close and personal with the Xenomorph itself. Due to this, I was able to discover a small part of what brings this game to fruition as well as what we can expect when it releases.

During my time with Alien Isolation 2, the first thing I was able to experience within the game was the intro that introduced me to the characters within the story. The three characters in question are all brand new when it comes to what we have seen within the Alien franchise, with us playing as a new character known as Blake as they search across a storm-ravaged colony in search of wreckage, which is later to be discovered as Sevastopol Station from the first game, and if this station’s remnants are around, then so are what was inside.

In order to find the wreckage, I had to walk through a small part of the game’s new world as we slowly traversed a forest and its horrid storm before ultimately finding myself at the wreckage in an all too familiar setting. The section I played of the game inside the wreckage was a small circular building where I needed to activate power to the station to search so that I could find information as to what the wreckage is and why it’s there.

To find this I had to walk around this small area, finding scraps to repair doors, navigating the area due to the locked doors, until finally finding a console that teased we were aboard the wreckage of Sevastopol Station. Once I discovered this, the terror began rather quickly, bringing back all the fears the first game thrust upon us while showing us the Xenomorph in all its glory in what can only be described as an incredible graphical upgrade.

Alien Isolation 2's Xenomorph and player hiding.

Now that the Xenomorph had made its introduction, the real game began as I had to now escape this circular death trap by any means necessary, with stealth being my only option, as I sadly didn’t have a flamethrower or gun at my disposal. Straight away a key feature I noticed within Alien Isolation 2 was that the Xenomorph was a lot more alert than it was in the first game, as it could hear pretty much every sound I made, whether it was splashing in a small puddle of water, knocking something over, or even sprinting in another room. There was absolutely no room for error, and sadly I made plenty of them.

A feature that has returned to the game is throwing items across the room to draw the Xenomorphs’ attention away from me and towards something else, but this time it has had a bit more of a realism touch added to it, as now when you interact with things in the game, such as a door panel to repair it, your character will physically place the held item down on the floor in order to do what you are telling them to do.

This may be a very small feature that many people may not notice, but for me it was a rather intriguing detail that really caught my attention, as I was constantly having to pick up my held item to make sure I had at least something to fight back with rather than it just magically ending up in my pocket before being picked up again.

After quite a few attempts at sneaking through the station and finally finding the exit, this was sadly where my time with the game ended, but from what I could see, the game’s overall design and intrigue are incredible, with the Xenomorph being just as deadly as it already was, meaning that Alien Isolation 2 is set to be a massive improvement from the first game.

At the time of writing, Alien Isolation 2 doesn’t have an exact release date, but there is a 2027 release window that has been estimated.
