The small, indie studio Space Goblin Studio has announced their future plans for Astrobotanica, the upcoming survival game set 300,000 years ago. Including a new trailer, Kickstarter plans and more features than you can shake a stick at, if you’re a survival fan, you’ll want to pay close attention to what Astrobotanica brings to the table.

Astrobotanica’s New Look Gameplay and Details

Space Goblin Studio, developer of Astrobotanica, has revealed a look at the gameplay of their upcoming survival game, coupled with details of their new Kickstarter campaign. Scheduled for release in Winter 2025, players who want to get their hands on the game before release have the opportunity to if they decide to contribute to said Kickstarter campaign.

It’ll allow them Closed-Alpha access, and arguably more importantly, direct contact with the development team, allowing players to contribute and shape the future of the botany-driven sci-fi survival adventure game.

If you’re on the fence about Astrobotanica, the gameplay trailer offers another look at the game, as well as its core design pillars:

  • Prehistoric botany.
  • Exploration and crafting.
  • Connecting with Neanderthal tribes.

Set some 300,000 years ago, the key features of Astrobotanica right now are:

  • Plant Research: Discover the unique qualities of the Earth’s flora and its effects on living organisms and the environment.
  • Tonics Crafting: Experiment with ingredients obtained from plant life to prepare mixtures for various uses, and develop recipes for later.
  • Cultivation: Nurture select plant species and build your very own garden, look after it by watering and nourishing your crops, and protecting it from hungry animals.
  • Exploration: Travel between islands and explore different biomes to discover new plants, while learning to handle dangerous wildlife and solving hidden mysteries.
  • Human Interaction: Break the ice and connect with primal humans inhabiting the islands to foster relationships that can lead to trading and mutual assistance.

Game Director of Astrobotanica, Arkadiusz Woźniak, was open and honest about the intentions behind the Kickstarter campaign for the game:

“We’re incredibly excited to launch this Kickstarter and—as promised—bring players into the development process. This crowdfunding campaign is all about sowing seeds of love for survival games, cultivating a potentially interesting project with the support of our community, and ultimately reaping what we hope will become a game everybody wants to play.”

Woźniak’s idea of what he and Space Goblin Studio want Astrobotanica to be is idealistic, and if they can pull it off, it could be a game-changer. As of right now, players will be taking control of Xel, an extraterrestrial protagonist who looks to learn about Earth’s culture and its inhabitants, and has some of the usual survival mechanics you’d expect in the genre, and more promised to come.
