Are you finding Atomfall difficult? Struggling to find the right weapon or keycard for the situation? How about missing a key recipe? Well, no matter the issue, we have everything answered to make Atomfall easy for you. In this guide we’ll explain how you can defeat the different protocol mechs that show up in Atomfall with ease.
How to Defeat the Protocol Mechs
There aren’t many enemies within Atomfall that require you to be careful when it comes to fighting them, but there is one that is very daunting once you come across them, and they are the protocol mechs.
These mechanical guards can be one of the most dangerous parts of Atomfall if you are not careful, as they have the firepower of around 10 enemies in one arm and can take just as many bullets as 10 enemies to defeat unless you know their weaknesses.
To be clear, there are two different types of protocol mechs that you will come across throughout Atomfall, one of which is a pretty standard mech that has a machine gun on one arm with its other hand being a basic claw. The other mech is a flamethrower mech that has a flamethrower on one hand and the other being a claw again.
Each of these enemies has multiple ways to defeat them, but we will start with the machine gun mech and the easiest way to defeat them. When you are fighting these mechs, it will be quite obvious that their heads house all their fragile parts, so focusing your bullets here is a very smart idea. Once enough bullets have been put into the head of the mech, it will begin to spark with blue electricity, and a voice line will appear regarding the mech overheating.
Once this voice line triggers, an atomic battery will partially remove itself from the back of the mech. As this is happening, the player can approach the mech without the risk of being damaged and use a hold prompt to attempt to remove the battery from the back of the mech. Doing this will deactivate the mech allowing you to survive the encounter.
When it comes to the flamethrower mech however, shooting them in the head is a lot harder as it wears a metal helmet with a relatively small slit in it, allowing bullets to enter, meaning that you will need to focus your fire somewhere else. Now your main target should be the explosive canisters that are on its back and its flamethrower arm.
As you shoot these canisters, they will begin to spit flames out and will eventually explode if enough bullets are put into them, again causing the mech to enter an overheated state, allowing for the battery to be removed.
However, if you do not want to keep these mechs alive and are willing to spare the bullets, there is the opportunity to destroy all of these weak spots and generally focus on the mech and some other small weak points leading to the possibility of the mech exploding. Although there isn’t much benefit to this except earning an achievement, you can gain some scrap from this as well as avoid going near the mech if enemies are present and aren’t allowing you near the mech to remove the battery.
Now you will be able to explore Rebellion’s universe without fear, as these enemies will no longer block you from progressing through this unique and beautiful world.
