For those of you waiting to dive into Lumiere when Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 launches in less than twenty-four hours, you could be forgiven for not knowing about Bethesda Studios’ announcing and launching a remaster of its highly successful 2006 title, The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion.
Sandfall Interactive’s pilot project, which attempts to breathe new life into a rather stagnant JRPG genre, will have to compete with one of modern gaming’s most popular titles when it launches – a fact that is not lost on the gaming community. It’s a situation that Margot Robbie might be all too familiar with after her role as Barbie back in 2023.
Clair Obscur Is A Bold Foray Into the Unknown
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 follows the titular expedition as they attempt to reverse the fate of humanity, saving them from a malignant entity called The Paintress, hell-bent on wiping them off the map. Sandfall Interactive’s attempt to revolutionize JRPGs comes with several innovative touches, such as quick-time events after attacking an enemy, and the ability to parry or dodge enemy attacks in combat.

Furthermore, Sandfall has also brought in a gorgeous new world for players to explore, a story that promises to tug on their heartstrings, and an ensemble cast that brings Clair Obscur’s unique characters to life. It’s an adventure that holds a lot of promise and is a highly anticipated release ever since it was first announced at Gamescom 2024.
Could Oblivion Be A Deadlier Adversary Than The Paintress?
Bethesda’s decision to release The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered could have been a blow to Sandfall Interactive, although the French studio was quick to celebrate the launch of a title that many gamers have long been hoping for.

Kepler Interactive, the game’s publisher, even found a way to inject some humor into the situation. Taking to X (formerly Twitter) to comment on Oblivion Remastered’s launch, Kepler’s take on the two games’ release dates takes people back to when Margot Robbie’s Barbie was in competition with Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer in July 2023.

As one would expect, the tweet managed to bring a lot of humorous responses alongside praise for how Kepler and Sandfall have taken what could have been bad news for Expedition 33 in their stride.

Several comments pointed to concerns about Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 being overshadowed by Oblivion, which could be valid, considering Sandfall Interactive is yet to prove itself in a highly competitive industry.
i hope your game release don't get overshadowed by oblivion 🙁
