There’s a big chance that if you’ve played an open-world RPG like Fallout, Skyrim, or Starfield in the last twenty years, you’ll have played some part of what Nate Purkeypile, solo indie dev of Purkeypile Games, has created. Things have changed since his time at Bethesda, and now, he’s bringing us news of his latest game Deedlee Doo! Carkour!
Deedlee Doo! Carkour!, an entirely New Spin on Things
Having left Bethesda in part due to his disillusionment with how complicated the studio had become compared to the earlier years, Nate Purkeypile struck out on his own with his own venture, launching his first game The Axis Unseen last year, and now, announcing his second indie game Deedlee Doo! Carkour!, which on the face of it, couldn’t be more different than that of any of his previous work.
Where The Axis Unseen was an open-world, first-person melee, and magic-based game, hunting down mythical monsters from the world’s folklore, Deedlee Doo! Carkour! is a game based around the idea of getting to the top of a ‘meowtain’ as you traverse clay environments and doing parkour in your car using explosions, no less. The creative throughline is clear.
When speaking to Nate Purkeypile about the disparity between his previous projects and this latest endeavor, his answer explained every question we had:
I’ve been wanting to do this forever. Like way back in the Quake days rocket jumping. Why not rocket jump with a car?
The ‘homemade’ nature of Purkeypile’s games continues here, previously having persuaded his wife to help with The Axis Unseen, and now with his children having helped create some of the clay molds featured in the game, it goes to show that sometimes game development can be a family affair.

In a day and age where it feels like every game is a raging behemoth needing 100+ hours to fully explore and enjoy, this pivot into a shorter adventure is a welcome one. We can’t wait to get enraged at this as we fall down the ‘meowtain’ time after time, but we won’t give up, will you?
Deedlee Doo! Carkour! is set to release on May 12th, 2025 on Steam. No console release has been announced yet.
