The Last of Us is a gaming franchise forever remembered for its controversies. The original game was released a decade ago and became an overnight sensation after the gaming community fell in love with Joel Miller and Ellie Williams. This story has gone on to be hailed as one of the greatest stories ever told in a video game, and it leaped to live-action with an equally impressive HBO show.
And yet, it seems the developers are pushing their luck with yet another rerelease, at a time when gamers are seemingly growing sick of remasters, remakes, collections, and so on, instead of fresh IPs. The less-than-coincidental timing with the release of HBO’s second season of The Last of Us screams opportunism as well, or does it?
The Definitive Bundle of The Last of Us Games Is Now Available for Purchase

If you haven’t played the original PlayStation 3 version of The Last of Us and have access to a PlayStation 5, you might as well go for the remake and throw in the remastered version of the controversial sequel. The remake was released in 2022 and was ridiculed for having a premium price tag of $70 and fans anticipated the sequel would receive some form of remastered treatment.
In a recent PlayStation blog post, director Neil Druckmann proudly revealed a complete edition featuring both games in a single package. While these games have been out for years and used copies are dirt cheap nowadays, the developers believed this bundle is for players who have not yet experienced this story.
The digital edition of The Last of Us Complete is now available at the PlayStation Store and a physical edition, dubbed the Collector’s Edition, will be released on July 10, 2025. The Collector’s Edition includes the following items:
- Steelbook case with physical discs.
- The Last of Us: American Dreams Comics issues 1-4 featuring new cover art.
- Set of four lithographic art prints.
- A thank you letter from the game creator.

The Collector’s Edition is $119.99, a massive eye-sore for hardcore fans of the franchise. Some would say this is a lazy cash grab to milk the franchise dry; however, some would argue that this is a sign that the developers are working on the highly anticipated sequel.
Does The Last of Us Complete Edition Put Part 3 at Risk?
The bundle’s name has the word ‘complete’ which seemingly suggests this is a definitive answer that The Last of Us Part 2 could be the end of this series. However, it could also mean this is where the story has ended so far. The controversial sequel had an open-ended ending and knowing that both Abby and Ellie are still alive, there could be more stories to tell with these characters.

Druckmann has been coy about the possibility of Part 3 since he started promoting The Last of Us Season 2; however, he did end the Grounded 2 documentary with a subtle hint that there could be more. Not everyone was a fan of how Part 2 panned out, but it is a testament to Naughty Dog’s guts to make hard choices and deliver a unique story.
Perhaps this complete bundle is meant to fend off fans until the game developers have wrapped up Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet and buy them enough time to work on wrapping up Ellie’s story with The Last of Us Part 3. This franchise has been a staple within the gaming industry and it would be a shame to end the story when so many people think there is more to tell.
