One of the most asked-for, and half-expected, yet never delivered remakes of the modern era is FromSoft’s Bloodborne. A game with huge sales at the time, critical success to boot and a devout following desperate for a remake, yet nothing seems to come of it. Speculation and rumours have run rife as to why, but as keynote speaker at CEDEC 2026, and as noticed by Genki, former PlayStation President Shuhei Yoshida had his say, and just like us, he’s as confused as to why we’ve not had anything yet.
“The game [Bloodborne] has a lot of fans all over the world, but there’s no PS5 version. PlayStation first-party teams are constantly releasing remasters and such, why aren’t they releasing this one?! A PC version hasn’t been released, ‘why hasn’t it been released?!’ is what I also get asked often. Well, that is considered a mystery. Yes. So, it might be released in the future, or it might not. A sequel might be made, or it might not. As a fan, I really hope it does get released.”
So it seems that Yoshida either isn’t in the know with PlayStation’s moves any more, and doesn’t know the situation of any potential Bloodborne remaster, or, more likely, he’s keeping tight lipped.
While we do have an unofficial Bloodborne mod that continues to bridge the gap a little, the lack of official support for a release is puzzling. With PlayStation’s own deadline for physical media fast approaching in 2028, the time for them to take advantage of physical sales for one of its biggest titles is also evaporating. Will we see some sort of movement soon? We don’t know, and that conversation occurs every time there’s a State of Play or Showcase.
