How to Beat Eveque In Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

Are you having trouble keeping your party alive in Sandfall Interactive’s Clair Obscur: Expedition 33? Are its enemies and bosses proving to be insurmountable challenges that hit too hard and too fast? Have no fear, our guides are here to help. We take a look at how to beat Eveque, the first main story boss you will encounter in Clair Obscur, alongside a few tips to make the fight easier.

Where to Find Eveque in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

You encounter Eveque as part of the main story, making this boss fight quite hard to miss. As you explore Spring Meadows, the first main region of the game, you find your path blocked by this hulking monstrosity. Eveque is an excellent showcase of what The Paintress is capable of, and is a great opportunity to fine-tune your combat skills in preparation for the rest of the game.

It could be a good idea to explore Spring Meadows thoroughly before taking on Eveque.

It’s a good idea to try fighting this boss on your own a few times before you attempt to take in down in earnest. That’s because learning your opponent’s moves and attack patterns in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is crucial to victory in Sandfall’s debut project, and can be very useful in training your muscle memory to parry and dodge with precision.

With that being said, it’s time to take the fight to this unforgettable boss.

How to Beat Eveque

Eveque in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
Eveque serves as a skill check for all that you have learned up to this point in the game.

To begin with, knowing exactly what the boss is capable of could spell the difference between victory and defeat. Let’s dive into the myriad attacks that Eveque throws at you over the course of the fight.

  • Single-handed strike: Eveque raises its left arm high above its head, materializing a spear that it slams down on your character after it roars with rage. This is an excellent attack to parry and deal some damage while racking up Attack Points for your counterattack.
  • Two-handed strike: Similar to the previous attack, Eveque raises both arms and brings them down with a spear in each one. Once again, this is an opportunity to parry and counter, allowing you to gain an advantage through extra Attack Points.
  • Reinforcements: Eveque summons a couple of Abbests, basic enemies that you are likely to encounter on the way to the boss. Don’t neglect these summons as they can become quite a nuisance if they are left unchecked with their melee strikes and slams, which you can parry with the right timing. However, if parrying them is too much trouble, a well-timed dodge works just as well as long as you avoid taking any damage from them.
  • Shields: Annoy Eveque enough, and it lets out a mighty roar, shielding itself in the process. Each shield negates an instance of damage that you can do to the boss. However, Gustave’s pistols, his Lumiere Assault skill, and Lune’s ability to inflict Burn damage can be very useful in whittling away at them until Eveque is vulnerable to damage again.
  • Ultimate Attack: If you’re used to knocking out enemy weak points using Free Aim, you might want to hold off on doing so until Eveque begins charging up its ultimate attack. Shooting at the core in its chest interrupts the charge, keeping you safe from a series of ground attacks that you must parry individually lest you suffer a ton of damage, potentially knocking a member of your party out of the fight. Remember that the third hit can be dodged or parried, although you will have to do this three times in a row if you are unable to interrupt the attack.

Tips to Prepare for the Eveque Boss Fight In Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

Considering that you only have access to Gustave and Lune at this point in your adventure, making good use of their Pictos and Luminas is a great way to ensure that you have a distinct advantage over Eveque. To that end, the Burning Shots Picto/Lumina for Gustave ensures that you exploit the boss’ weakness to Fire damage. It’s helpful to know that Ice damage also works well in this fight as it applies the Slow status to the boss.

Lune explores the world in Clair Obscu: Expedition 33
With Eveque out of the way, it’s time to finally make your way to Maelle.

While Lune should be your main damage dealer in this fight, given that her Immolation and Ice Lance abilities can make quick work of Eveque, using them in tandem to make the most of Stain-induced damage is very important. As mentioned before, save Gustave’s attack points for the Abbests or for Lumiere Assault to get rid of Eveque’s pesky shields.

With a little patience and some quick reflexes, Eveque should eventually perish, leaving you free to continue your adventure in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and perhaps find a few more Pictos and Colours of Lumina in the Spring Meadows and the open world.
