Are you having trouble keeping your party alive in Sandfall Interactive’s Clair Obscur: Expedition 33? Are its enemies and bosses proving to be insurmountable challenges that hit too hard and too fast? Have no fear, our guides are here to help. We take a look at how to beat the Chromatic Lancelier, the first of many elite bosses you will encounter in Clair Obscur, alongside a few tips to make the fight easier.
Where to Find the Chromatic Lancelier in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
You will likely spot the Chromatic Lancelier across a short bridge in the Spring Meadows, the first main area you explore in the game. While there is no indication that this boss is any harder than his ordinary counterpart, you will soon find that Gustave and Lune are barely able to make a dent in its massive health bar, making this a fight that you would rather ignore until you recruit Maelle to your party.
There are two reasons for this. Firstly, having Maelle in your party can be an advantage against the Chromatic Lancelier. Second, this is an optional boss battle that you could come back to at any time, and Gustav and Lune will likely face a lot of problems taking him on at this point in your adventure.

It’s a good idea to beat Eveque before coming back to the Chromatic Lancelier, as the extra levels and stats you get from that fight will certainly help make this fight easier.
However, the Chromatic Lancelier can be taken down if you’re really determined to see the fight through. Remember to brush up on the basic combat mechanics in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 before you approach the Lancelier and hit it with your first strike.
How to Beat Chromatic Lancelier

As with any other enemy in Clair OBscur: Expedition 33, take the time to study the Chromatic Lancelier’s moves and learn the right windows to dodge or parry his attacks. Fortunately, there are only two main attacks that the boss uses, making this fight a great place to start honing your skills for what comes after.
- Quick Attack: The Chromatic Lancelier rears back and stabs forward with its spear. Parry this move to unleash some serious damage with a counterattack.
- Slow Attack: The Chromatic Lancelier charges up an attack with its spear before lunging forward to stab at its target twice in a row. It could be a good idea to dodge the first strike and parry the second if you find the timing difficult to nail down. Look for the yellow glow on its spear to know when the second attack is coming.
Additionally, the Chromatic Lancelier has a weak point in its head that you can shoot to remove around a quarter of its health for the mere price of a single Attack Point.
Tips to Prepare for the Chromatic Lancelier Boss Fight In Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
For Gustave, his Lumiere Assault skill and Marking Shot are great damage-dealing options, along with any Pictos/Luminas that generate Attack Points for either dodging or parrying. This ensures that you always have an attack ready to throw at the Chromatic Lancelier. From Fire is also a great option if you have Lune’s Immolate ability unlocked for use, allowing him to heal from attacking.
For Lune, Ice Lance is a crucial skill to have, considering the boss is weak to Ice damage. Breath of Life is also useful in a pinch when you find the need to heal, although it uses up a turn that could be spent dealing some damage. Thermal Transfer is another great option, allowing you to generate 4AP from hitting a burning enemy.

Use Marked Shot and Immolation as your opening moves for Gustave and Lune, respectively, before moving on to hitting the boss with Lumiere Assault and Thermal Transfer. In case you take damage, From Fire and Breath of Life are there to bring your character back into the fray.
The Chromatic Lancelier should fall to your attacks in no time, leaving you to continue exploring the Spring Meadows for more loot and the eventual showdown with Eveque.
