Marvel’s Wolverine is here after a very long wait since its reveal, and after playing through it, we’re in the best position to help where you may it. In this case, by the end of the guide, you’ll know exactly how to beat Omega Red in Marvel’s Wolverine, and how to do it quickly and easily. He’s not a simple boss, by any means, and quite surprising in his difficulty so early on.

How to Beat Omega Red in Marvel’s Wolverine

Finding Omega Red is easy. Thanks to Marvel’s Wolverine being a linear game, you’ll be unable to miss the Russian villain in the opening level, although the boss fight is teased several times throughout. Despite many meetings, some barbed conversations, and brutal cutscenes throughout the first level, you won’t be able to shut him up until the very end.

HISTORY LESSON: For those unfamiliar with him, Arkady Rossovich, aka Omega Red, is a former Soviet agent who has unique powers that make him an excellent foil for our titular anti-hero. He has tentacles that can grab from far away; he absorbs others’ life force to sustain his own, and has an unhealthy obsession with Wolverine, or more specifically, getting his blood and healing factor for himself.

The boss battle will be fought over four phases and two stages, and thankfully, they’re very similar in prospect.

The first two phases and stage are inside an airplane hangar, and involves you fighting Omega Red in a smaller enclosed space. The game will explain your need to stagger him before unleashing your attacks, but it’s important to note this is only half correct. You don’t need to stagger him to hurt him! You can attack him prior to that; just be mindful of his own counter-attacks.

The early phases should be fought the same way, as he fights in a simple fashion. He’ll swing his tentacles at you in a methodical pattern, and you’ll need to parry each hit with L1 at the right moment. Doing this builds up the stagger meter, and once it is full, you’ll be able to run up to him and hit him with a Barrage attack, dealing decent damage. In between these moments, I’d suggest you use both your unlocked skills on him as you see fit, the Tornado Spin and Head Bash, which, despite Omega Red not being stunned, will break his shield and hurt him significantly. You can also land a few normal hits on him at this moment. If you don’t and wait for him to be staggered, it’ll be a long fight.

Reduce his health bar to zero and there you go! Beaten… or so you think. The second stage of the fight begins, and you’ll now be outside the airplane hangar and surrounded by Reavers, who Omega Red orders to leave you to him. The rain is pouring down, and the arena is much bigger, but the method is the same, just far more chaotic.

In phases three and four especially, Omega Red is far more aggressive. He focuses many of his attacks on unparryable Red attacks, rather than swinging his tentacles for you to parry and build stagger. This means two things:

  • You need to get comfortable dodging.
  • When he does swing a normal attack, don’t forget to parry and build stagger.

You should still be getting in closer and attacking him with your special attacks, but be wearing of the red attacks. If he grabs you, button mash until you escape, and if he does manage to kill you, you should be able to revive yourself at least once to continue the fight.

One combo to really pay attention to is his five-hit combo in the fourth phase of the fight, as he swings both ways twice and then slams into the ground, dealing huge damage. Make sure to dodge carefully and in time.

If you’ve followed so far, you’ll be at a point where he’s close to death. Be patient, use your skills and normal attacks to chip away at his health, but don’t take risks and don’t panic if you do get hit. Just take your time, build your own rage, build his stagger meter, and before you know it, you’ll see the ending cinematic.

And that’s how you beat Omega Red in Marvel’s Wolverine, and now you’re onto the next level!
