James Gunn Drops Superman Trailer, and It Couldn’t Be Further From Zack Snyder’s Vision

The Superman Trailer has finally been released courtesy of DC Studios and James Gunn, and fans everywhere are talking about various aspects of it, including its color grading, numerous Easter eggs, and also how different it looks and feels as compared to Zack Snyder’s version starring Henry Cavill. The stakes are pretty high for this one, as it’s the kickoff to a whole new era for the DCU and DC movies, and a lot’s riding on the success of the movie, as James Gunn himself has recently stated.

Superman, played by David Corenswet, is the centerpiece of this rebooted DC Universe, with connections extending to Creature Commandos, Peacemaker Season 2, Supergirl, and more upcoming projects, making this trailer a big moment for fans and critics alike. And so far, it looks like this movie might just be what Superman fans have been waiting a long time for.

Superman Trailer Shows a Brighter, More Hopeful Superman and Metropolis

The Superman trailer was released on the 19th of December, clocking in at a little over two minutes, and introduces David Corenswet as the new Clark Kent, with plenty of scenes showing him in the Superman costume.

The trailer also gives a sneak peek at several other characters that are in the movie, like Lex Luthor, Lois Lane, Hawkgirl, Guy Gardner, Metamorpho, Mister Terrific, and Krypto. The trailer also showed Superman fighting a character that has been rumored to be Ultraman.

From the footage, this version of Superman is shaping up to be far more comic-accurate, leaning into the hopeful and uplifting spirit of the character. This is a big departure from Zack Snyder’s take on the Man of Steel, which leaned into darker tones, and heavier themes

The colors in Gunn’s Superman movie are noticeably more vibrant, but not overly flashy or colorful. It still has a certain grounded look and feels like a balanced mix that stays true to the character.

The movie is set to release in July 11th 2025, and fans are pretty excited to see if this hopeful and optimistic take on Superman will live up to the high expectations and succeed in setting up the groundwork for the rest of the DCU and DC movies.
