If you’re stuck in the early stages of Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, and looking for help with Jason Rich’s boss fight, read on for all the tips and tricks to make it a doddle. Goro Majimi’s first difficult encounter since he awakens on the beach with amnesia, the boss fight can prove troublesome if you’re unsure of what you’re doing, or how to approach it best.
How to Get to Jason Rich Boss Fight in Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii
Jason Rich, Noah’s father, is less than trustful of Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii‘s protagonist, Goro Majima since he arrived on their little island disheveled and lacking his memory, but come the end of chapter one of the game, it has hit a fever pitch of tension between the pair. This boss fight is unavoidable, with it being a story point and the end of the first chapter, so simply following the story will get you to the confrontation.

After multiple tutorials introducing you to the finer points of the game, an introduction to one of the main antagonists in the game Jack the Collector (and your first experience of fighting on deck), you’ll be tasked with recruiting Jason Rich as your new ship’s navigator. Due to his prior treasure-hunting experience, there doesn’t seem to be a better option available, but with his hermit-like attitude and dislike of Majima, you can tell it won’t be easy to persuade him. Upon arriving at his bar, a cutscene takes place and quite predictably ends up in a fight between him and Majima, but how do you beat Jason Rich?
How to Defeat Jason Rich
Jason Rich is the first proper boss of Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, and can be quite a challenge if you don’t take proper precautions, no matter the difficulty you’re playing on. Jason Rich shares some similarities to the game’s previous bosses up to this point, the main being that he has two phases separated by a quick time event. He’ll sport melee combos and the odd grapple attack, so there are a few pointers you’ll need to take in to ensure you come out victorious.

---|
Make sure to cook yourself some Bento’s before the fight, as you can consume them to replenish your health from the menu. |
With his first phase, you’ll want to pay close attention to him and his moveset. He’s quite slow and telegraphs his attacks, but if you get caught, you’ll be in real trouble. Make sure you make use of Majima’s block, and then as he finishes his combo (usually with a leg kick) unleash hell on him. It’s far better to use Majima’s Mad Dog style for this fight, as the clones can be the difference between victory and death, and giving yourself a much-needed breather. Make use of the Majima’s strong combos with the dagger, and you’ll quickly deplete his health.
Once you’ve removed nearly all of his first health bar, a quick time event will occur, where he throws a keg/barrel at you, followed by a running attack. Make sure to hit the QTE in time, otherwise you’ll lose a chunk of your health yourself.

If you haven’t used your Mad Dog clones at this point, the second phase is going to need it for sure. His attack goes up, as indicated by the red aura, and he’s far more persistent in his attempts to hurt you. As with the last phase, blocking his attacks will be paramount to success, and you’ll notice he’s far quicker as well now. No sluggish telegraphing. Choose the timing of your attacks wisely, as you don’t want to get grabbed or hit by him, especially if he charges up his special attack. When you see this happening, you can either get out of the way or choose to counter him, which will deal huge damage to him.
There are plenty of objects surrounding you that you can use to hurt him from a distance, including barrels. Don’t miss out on causing easy damage with these as well as your fists/swords. Deplete Jason Rich’s second health bar, be it with Mad Dog clones, your swords, counters, or objects on the map, and you’ll beat him, and complete chapter one as well.
