It’s been said once, it’ll be said a lot more times. Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii is absolutely bonkers in all the best ways. From pet tigers to pirate adventures, there’s always something new and unexpected to happen upon and experience, and that extends to the skills and items you can find and use during your time sailing the high seas. In this guide, you’ll find out exactly how and when you’ll get your hands on that handy-looking Chain Hook from the promotional materials on TV and the internet!
Get Over Here!
Thankfully, getting the Chain Hook is unavoidable, as it’s given to you as part of the main story. Unfortunately, it’s given to you during one of the longest chapters in franchise history, half way through Chapter Two, to be exact. After venturing into Madlantis and being told to get an upgraded ship and crew, Goro Majima and Co will venture to Honolulu in search of Clark the Shipwright, to aid in the fixing and upgrading of the ship.

After a difficult boss fight, you’ll have recruited Clark onto your team, but he announces that you need one more person to help with the job, due to its size and complexity; this would be Julie. In true Like a Dragon fashion, even this isn’t easy, as once you’ve found her, she tasks you with raising $10,000 to help cover the costs of the work. A side quest here, a bounty there, and you’ll have the money in no time, to which Julie will call you and ask you to visit her second shop, as she has something for you. This is the Chain Hook. A brief tutorial later, and suddenly you’ve become a great deal more mobile in both combat and exploration of your environment!
What Use is the Chain Hook in Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii?
The Chain Hook has several uses, including some that the tutorial doesn’t cover, but will inevitably make your life considerably easier:
- Grappling to roofs above you. You can find treasure, items, or just new ways to your destination using this. Some of the rarest items are usually hidden away above you.
- Combat. You’ll no longer have to tediously run across the map to the last enemy in the fight, as you’ll be able to zip across to them thanks to the Chain Hook. It’s also very useful for escaping damage, making it a must for boss fights, and for extending your combo. Don’t sleep on it!
- Picking up items. You’ll see items all over the environment as you explore, in the shape of a glowing-orb-like item. You don’t always have to go up to it to collect it and can use the Chain Hook instead. This is especially useful for fish and bugs.
