Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra Won’t Feature the Captain America You Know

Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra is an upcoming superhero video game from Marvel Games and Skydance New Media. The genius behind the Uncharted franchise is stepping into the Marvel Multiverse with a rare opportunity to introduce different versions of the heroes everyone knows and loves from the live-action films. Rather than going with the much more mature and experienced version of the First Avenger, Amy Hennig opted to go the opposite route, making it an interesting take on the hero.

After being selected for a program that would help change the tide of the Second World War, Steve Rogers had a lot on his plate and Amy Hennig applied extra pressure to the Super Soldier was experiencing during the game. Hennig, renowned for her incredible work at Naughty Dog and the Uncharted franchise is eager to show the gaming community a different side of Captain America and how his inexperience as a symbol of a nation perfectly complements King Azzuri’s Black Panther.

It led us to do a bunch of interesting things, one of which was to not only tell a story with a young Steve Rogers who’s still trying to find his feet, as opposed to the more seasoned guy that we’ve seen in a lot of the films. It also let us introduce a new Black Panther of 1943.

Fans are accustomed to the live-action performances of Chris Evans and the late Chadwick Boseman as Captain America and Black Panther, respectively, and Hennig was intrigued by the setting of the Second World War and the history both these heroes have being a man lost to time and a king who passes the mantle from generation to generation. With a great responsibility imbued upon them, Steve lacks the experience of being a hero whereas Azzuri has had his fill.

Perhaps these two heroes can learn something from each other and realize they want the same thing. Hennig hinted that Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra will take players on a worldwide adventure with unique biomes to remind fans that both heroes hail from different worlds, and this will be heavily explored throughout the story.

It led us to tap into all the things that I love, all of the wonderful tropes of World War II-era adventure films, classic men-on-a-mission movies and all of that. There’s a lot of intrigue in our story, a lot of twists and turns, fascinating characters, and interesting locations.

Being a combatant in a foreign land, Captain America is eager to prove himself and get the job done but is left with no choice but to forge an uneasy alliance with Azzuri to accomplish his mission. Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra is not a rehash of what fans have seen before and the dynamic between the two heroes is something Hennig is looking forward to sharing being two men on a mission with their agendas and proving that mankind can drop all petty squabbles to work together for a future.
