“I’ll take two”: The Nintendo Switch 2 Official Reveal has Broken the Internet

In what will be remembered as the worst-kept secret in the gaming industry, the official reveal of the Nintendo Switch 2 has finally dropped. After rumors last year, endless leaks, and even an early leak of the official announcement, we now have confirmation that the sequel console is real, what it looks like, and even what it can handle. Oh, and a Switch 2-centric Nintendo Direct Date!

The Nintendo Switch 2 is Real!

The announcement trailer (shown above) focused on the Switch 2 itself, rather than any concrete details. In what looks like a CAD student’s heaven of a video, we see the original Switch swapped out methodically with improvements and additions, resulting in a new look, Nintendo Switch 2.

The video also made sure to include 2025 in big letters, clearly indicating the Nintendo Switch 2 release date is some point this year, although when is unknown currently, but the also announced Nintendo Direct on April 2nd will surely reveal that, and a slew of other details.

Lastly, the video included a detail to what’d one of the most asked questions; can it play my original Switch games? The answer? Yes, but not all of them. As for what games will and won’t be supported, that’s another answer we hope the Nintendo Direct will address.

Regardless of your thoughts on the security of Nintendo and its ability to keep a secret, even down to announcement dates and trailers, one thing is for certain, it’s an exciting time to be a Switch 2 (or Switch) fan.

The Fans are on Board

The Nintendo Switch recently broke a long-standing PS2 record last month, with it outselling the Sony console in the US. It may still be 14 million behind globally, but second place of all consoles is far from shabby, and if the reactions to the reveal of the Switch 2 are anything to go by, Nintendo could be on track for another huge success.

Other fans were equally excited, but far less descriptive of the fact:

The theme of this continues, with the vast majority happy with one part of the Switch 2 or another, and probably like us, mostly happy it is in fact real. However, in what could be the best reaction from anyone yet, comes this highly satirical and incredible parody response:

The Switch 2 is real. It’s here to stay. We’ll find out more on the 2nd of April about the Switch 2 specs, price, release date and more hopefully, but for now, we can bask in the fact that we’re getting more Nintendo goodness, and hopefully with it, the rumored Mario Kart 10.
