Quantum Witch is the debut title from indie developer NikkiJay that takes you into a beautiful and mysterious world as you are tasked with finding your missing Faer, along with other secrets. Recently, I received the opportunity to play Quantum Witch for myself, and it is safe to say that I was surprised with every turn, as the game always kept me on my toes.

The World and Story of Quantum Witch

To start, let’s talk about the world of Quantum Witch. The world of Quantum Witch is set in a 2-D space, tasking the player with moving side to side to explore each location. When it comes to the numerous locations within the game, I was pleasantly surprised by how detailed they were, as each scene was just as interesting as the last, while also providing me with new information regarding the story I was immersed in.

Throughout the story, you will be placed in all kinds of locations that can range from a farmland to a murky forest and even a mysterious realm. Within each location, there was plenty to explore, with each holding some form of secret to uncover, which kept me busy throughout my playthroughs as I attempted to discover each of the game’s endings.

Without going too much into spoilers, these scenes aren’t the only interesting parts of the world of Quantum Witch, as I learned within my playthrough. While exploring Quantum Witch, it was clear that there is more than meets the eye in these scenes that NikkiJay masterfully weaved into the game world and its story.

Although the game world began as what I can only describe as a fairly bright and humorous world, it did begin to move further into a darker and more upsetting tone that was very clearly portrayed by the game’s locations.

What makes the world of Quantum Witch even more interesting is its story, as it takes the player through a bizarre but interesting story that keeps you guessing as to whether or not you are doing the right thing or making things worse.

Within Quantum Witch, there are plenty of options you can make that could alter the ending you can get, which I tried out as I attempted to get each ending to see which was more interesting, and it is safe to say that each ending had its unique twist to it.

Great Characters Make a Great Game

One of the best parts of Quantum Witch is the characters that you will meet along your journey. For veteran gamers, there are some characters who you will notice right away, even though they do have some distinct differences, but besides these characters, there are plenty of unique NPCs that you can meet on your adventure.

During my time with Quantum Witch, I was constantly baffled by how each character was unique and strange compared to the others, as there was no character alike, which is very rare in games nowadays.

What made the characters stand out, however, was how they didn’t confine themselves to staying within the borders of their world. By this, I mean that there are a lot of meta moments throughout Quantum Witch that had me wondering how much these characters know and whether or not they would act on these thoughts.

For me, this gave each character its own personality, as they each felt as though they had their own agendas within this world, while also ensuring that the main character, Ren, was able to arrive at the game’s conclusion in such a way that would make the player feel some kind of connection to the NPCs within the game and the world they inhabit.

Gameplay Started Slow but Built Up Fast

As with any game, the first few minutes and missions always attempt to introduce you to the game world as well as how the game is actually played, and Quantum Witch is no different. Starting with a simple fetch quest while learning the ropes of the game was a perfect way to introduce the player to the world of Quantum Witch.

Although not long into Quantum Witch, gameplay did begin to speed up rapidly as events would take place within the game that had you on the edge of your seat, whether it be learning how to fight, exploring locations hidden away, or even mastering a unique power. There was plenty to learn and try out within Quantum Witch that I was very interested in.

For me, unfortunately, it did feel as though getting to this sped-up section of the game did feel a little sluggish, as there was no real information to help guide you through the story, just a few voice lines that could easily be missed or forgotten, with no option to repeat.

This meant that on some occasions, I would blindly run around looking for essentially a needle in a haystack as I searched high and low for something that was right in front of my face the entire time. For most people, this may sound like I am just bad at puzzles and stumbled blindly looking for solutions, but sadly, even the mystical skeleton that can see through time was stumped on some occasions, leaving me to figure things out on my own rather than being led on an epic journey.

Ultimately, however, I did eventually begin to understand that the quests that the game laid out before me allowed me to progress with the story and get back on track to what felt like an easy experience, but for some moments there were moments in which I felt completely baffled and lost as I tried every gameplay mechanic I could before finding the simple solution before me.

My Overall Opinion on Quantum Witch

Overall, I found that Quantum Witch was a fun and imaginative experience. I could never predict what was coming, as each moment was just as bizarre as the last, with surprises waiting for me around each corner.

Although there were moments in which the story had lost me for a short while, I did manage to get back on track and enjoy the experience right to the end. What made Quantum Witch stand out was its gameplay features, as it wasn’t just a simple side-scrolling adventure game; it had numerous features that helped it feel even more impressive and unique.

Quantum Witch is a unique 2-D side-scrolling adventure that takes the player through a normal village called Hus as they attempt to find their Faer, who have gotten lost. But not all is as it seems within this world, as there are numerous surprises and mysteries to uncover.

In terms of gameplay, it was great fun to play, but there were a few moments in which I found the puzzles to be rather confusing.
