The Last of Us Season Two Could Be Flipping the Switch on Infamous Abby Scene

The Last of Us Season Two Could Be Flipping the Switch on Infamous Abby Scene

The Last of Us Part 2 was arguably one of the most gruesome and violent video games ever released. The violence alone became a major talking point for different groups, especially with the inclusion of the Seraphites, better known as Scars, a hostile faction that disembowels other people to ‘free them from sin.’ Some fans are eager to see this religious cult make their live-action debut in the second season, and it seems like the showrunners are making another creative change.

Ellie and Abby are the two playable characters from the source material, and both have their fair share of action sequences and encounters against the Scars. However, the recent trailer confirms that the show will reuse older set pieces, for different characters. Perhaps this is an attempt to give the live-action version of Ellie more fight scenes and show how this Abby isn’t as violent as her video game counterpart.

The Last of Us Season 2 Could Give Ellie a Different Introduction to the Scars

In The Last of Us Part 2, Ellie tracked down Abby and her hunt made her cross paths with the Seraphites in Seattle Day 2. This moment became a highlight in the game since this faction is not infected and relies on blades and arrows to kill their enemies, and they communicate through whistling. As if that is not creepy enough, these people believe they are righteous, have to cleanse the world of both infected and non-infected people, leading to a war with the WLF.

Naughty Dog has stepped up regarding enemy variety since these people can be unpredictable and aggressive. Abby has had her fair share against this religious cult that led to her iconic moment of fighting a horde of stalkers right after she was captured and about to be disemboweled. However, the trailer suggests that this moment might be given to Ellie instead.

This could be another welcome change and the showrunner’s response to the criticism that the first season lacked action sequences. The controversial sequel will force Craig Mazin’s hand, especially since the sequel is all about action and violence. Perhaps this is one of the many changes the showrunners will make to avoid giving the fans a rehash of a story that already rocked the community to the core.

Violence and the cycle of revenge are core themes of The Last of Us Part 2, but this doesn’t mean the live-action adaptation will follow beat by beat. The trailer already confirmed that the show will change where Ellie will confront Joel about what he did in the Firefly hospital, and Druckmann confirmed that the show will not be as violent as the source material.

Perhaps these are necessary changes to better adapt the story for a television series. The showrunners realize they can’t perfectly recapture what happened in the game into the show and made some compromises.
