Screenbound‘s release is fast approaching, and after an intriguing Summer Game Fest trailer, we spoke to Josh Pressiesen, the Game Director and Owner of Crescent Moon Games, responsible for the game. Among other things, we discussed the lack of AI used in the game and why, his worry, or not, of releasing during a packed September release window, and the possibility of any multiplayer in the game.
When asked whether Screenbound was purely a single player experience, Pressiesen said:
“Currently, we are only planning for single player. The idea for multiplayer has been discussed at one time or another (it would have to be another gameplay mode – if so). Co-op does seem very interesting, but I’d like to get the single player out first and well polished before we even start thinking about a multiplayer experience. It’s not something we’re ruling out.”
How the 5D platformer would even begin to approach a multiplayer mode, or co-op mode, when it’s already dealing with both 2D and 3D perspectives is beyond me, but it seems something that Pressiesen has given some thought. Truly unique experiences like Screenbound are always better with a friend, so it’ll be interesting to see if we ever get that opportunity.
Following on from the multiplayer question, I also discussed with him what players can expect for post-game content:
“Players can look forward to unlocking some special levels and cosmetics that you can buy in the garage on the desktop computer… And some secret levels as well. There should be plenty for the player to do after the main storyline! We are still thinking of even more to add after that as well.”
With the release only being a few months away, it’s good to see that the game is still being filled with content to keep us busy. Now more than ever, value for money is important, with the cost of consoles shooting up, games following quickly behind, more content, as long as it’s good, is always welcome.
Screenbound is due for release on September 10th on PlayStation 5, XBOX Series X|S, and PC.
