Death Stranding 2: On the Beach has finally been released, and much like its predecessor, the gaming community is enjoying every second. Kojima Productions made necessary changes to the core gameplay, which benefited the sequel and the player base.

One of the things fans disliked about the first game is trekking a post-apocalyptic America with minimal methods for traversal; fortunately, this is a problem solved by the PlayStation 5’s SSD. The impressive speed is proof that the developers wasted no time figuring out how to use the console’s hardware to their advantage.

The map of the Death Stranding sequel is much larger than the original game, especially since Sam will be connecting the entirety of Australia to the Chiral Network. However, early sections of the game also allow him to visit Mexico, and throughout the story, he can travel to and from on board the DHV Magellan, Drawbridge’s ship.

After completing Order 12, Tarman informs Sam that the ship can travel through tar currents and is a much faster mode of transportation. While fast travel is available in the first game via the Fragile Jump feature, Kojima Productions did an impressive job of trimming the load times in Death Stranding 2: On the Beach.

This is a testament to the PlayStation 5’s hardware and how developers are utilizing it to their advantage. Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is a massive and detailed game, and loading into a new area or biome usually takes a few seconds or even a full loading screen (similar to Marvel’s Spider-Man 2). The current generation of gaming has also brought an end to the era of long loading screens, and Kojima Productions gave porters a glimpse of the new norm.
