Dune: Awakening has already hit its stride with ridiculous pre-release, and it’s only going to get better.. At its peak, 117k users were exploring the lands ruled by the Shai-Hulud. The number comes from video game tracker SteamDB. Last month, the developers hosted a large-scale beta of the game where they gave away a lot of beta keys to those who joined the desert party.
Although the full release of the game is scheduled for June 10, 2025, early access was given to the players who have bought the Deluxe and Ultimate editions. Funcom announced this in a press release, where a part of it reads,
With Deluxe and Ultimate edition players able to start their Arrakis adventure right now via the early headstart. The full launch arrives on June 10, and the game can now be pre-loaded.
With a reception like that, the Funcom game is likely to see more players flocking in. Maybe developers need to be prepared for Helldivers 2, which saw a lot of players diving into the game when it was released and that crashed the servers on it’s initial releae.
Players Are Already Getting Thrills From Dune: Awakening Gameplay

What the Dune films lack is the entire ecosystem, consisting of a range of sandworms and its destructive weather. All of it is coming together in the latest game. Users have already experienced one of those things here. They are just loving the sandworm encounters in the game, as can be seen in some of the videos they uploaded.
Like this daredevil called HunwutP, who evaded this large sandworm by a few inches, just in the nick of time.
And here’s another one. This one’s from XirtCS, who explained that it was one scary encounter, but then it seems like the user actually enjoyed the sight of a sandworm at close range.
Reddit and other platforms have seen an influx of Dune: Awakening clips like that, and vibes are certainly positive in it. The game is currently holding a 9-star rating on Steam but that could see a bit of change after the full release.
