“Just so we’re on the same page…”: Helldivers 2 Is ‘Fixed’, But Fans Won’t Allow Arrowhead to Break the Lore

The Helldivers 2 community has shown tremendous courage by taking on life-threatening missions to protect the freedom of Super Earth and her citizens and accomplishing impossible feats as a team. The gaming community’s commitment in-game reflects their passion for the game’s lore and the game developers of Arrowhead Game Studios must tread carefully to avoid losing the fans’ goodwill.

It is no secret that modern live-service games have taken extreme measures to assert dominance and gain relevancy by collaborating with other franchises. Popular online games like Fortnite and Call of Duty thrived with this content by adding new cosmetic items inspired by certain characters; however, some fans are getting tired of this exercise and want Helldivers 2 to avoid falling into the same rabbit hole.

Arrowhead Game Studios struck gold with this franchise, and it is a dream come true for science-fiction fans to play a video game with this setting. While the game shares a few recognizable and familiar themes from other franchises such as Star Wars, Star Trek, and more, this does not mean the gaming community is open to the possibility of a potential crossover.

Fans are welcome to new weapons or cosmetic items taking some inspiration from other franchises; however, they will not support a full crossover where certain characters are available for purchase as skins. Perhaps this idea might have crossed the minds of the developers as an effort to regain the trust of the gaming community after the PlayStation Network fiasco for PC players caused by Sony many months ago.

Arrowhead Game Studios was unprepared for the game’s success and it hasn’t been easy for the developers to work behind the scenes to keep Helldivers 2 afloat. The game developers sift through problems, stabilizing certain issues, and generating new content to keep the player base interested; unfortunately, not all of the team’s ideas pan out as envisioned.

Crossovers may sound fun on paper; however, those in power could get easily distracted by more opportunities that can make them lose sight of the bigger picture. Other game developers are comfortable with this idea, and their player base but the Helldivers 2 community is vocal about how they feel about this topic.
