Brett Goldstein is Reportedly in the Running to Portray Rubeus Hagrid
After an Emmy-winning performance on the Ted Lasso series, Brett Goldstein has been making a name for himself and landed a brief, albeit promising cameo as Hercules in Marvel Studios’ Thor: Love and Thunder. Rumor has it that the British actor and comedian is the top pick to portray Rubeus Hagrid in the HBO reboot, originally portrayed by Robbie Coltrane for nearly a decade in live-action films.

Hagrid is a gentle giant and friend to the titular character who also serves as the groundskeeper at Hogwarts. Coltrane nailed his performance as Hagrid and became a fan-favorite ever since. Goldstein’s acting chops and gentleness from his background in comedy could serve him well if he were to be cast.
Alongside Goldstein, a few big names were also mentioned in the rumor. Mark Strong and Mark Rylance are being eyed for the role of Professor Albus Dumbledore. On the other hand, Rachel Weisz and Sharon Horgan are among the choices for Professor Minerva McGonagall. It is worth noting that no formal offers have been made to said actors, as of right now.
