Split Fiction – How to Beat the Ice King

Struggling with Split Fiction? Your partner letting you down? Well, whether it’s during gameplay or a boss, we have absolutely all the answers you could possibly need. This guide will be your Split Fiction walkthrough for the fifth boss of the game, the Ice King, and more accurately, how to beat the Ice King.

How to Defeat the Ice King

The Ice King is the fifth boss that players will encounter within Split Fiction and is also the final boss within the third chapter of the game. What may take players by surprise during this fight is that it is very involved with many different situations taking place at once, so we created a guide to help you deal with his numerous attacks and mechanics.

Unlike the other bosses within Split Fiction, the Ice King alters the system a little bit as it moves from a three-phase system to a two-phase system; however, both of these phases are very hectic and will likely cause players to be shocked upon entering the arena.

Phase One

The Ice King is a feisty cat with a lot of attacks.

The first phase of the Ice King boss fight is relatively easy as it allows the player to get to grips with some of the mechanics that they will come across throughout the rest of the boss fight.

To start, the player will begin by avoiding different types of attacks that the Ice King will throw their way. These types of attacks consist of:

  • Numerous pillars of ice that move across the arena.
  • Icicles falling from the ceiling.
  • Icicles will plant themselves in the floor, causing the player to move to the center of the arena before the Ice King pounces across the arena, creating a damaging area in the center.
  • A slam attack that travels across the arena like a wave.

Each of these attacks will continuously be used by the Ice King as he attempts to keep the player busy, but there is one moment in the fight when he becomes weak, and this is after he does the slam attack that causes a wave of ice to travel across the arena.

Once the Ice King does this attack twice, he will stand on his hind legs with a grabbable spot on his chest. The player who is controlling Zoe will have to transform into the Tree Ent form and pull the Ice King to the floor, opening him up to an attack from Mio in her Ape form as she goes to town on the amulet in the Ice King’s headpiece.

If the player misses this opportunity, there is no need to stress as the Ice King will continue to slam onto the ground for another 3 slams; once he does this, he will open himself up again to be pulled by Zoe. Once the player does this damage phase twice, they will move on to the next phase of the fight against the Ice King in Split Fiction.

Phase Two

Prepare to run as phase two is full of attacks that will hunt you down.

After the players inflict enough damage to the Ice King, he will then initiate phase two of the boss fight by destroying the floor and sending the players down a short slide leading to a second room. Once the players enter this room, they will notice a large pool in the center of the arena; this will be important later in the boss fight, so do not jump straight in.

Once the second phase kicks in properly, a large ice vortex will begin in the center of the arena, blocking access to the pool in the center of the arena. As this happens, smaller vortexes will be created in the rest of the arena and will slowly move in a circle around the vortex.

After a short amount of time of dodging these vortexes has passed, the player who is in control of Mio can shine as they transfer into the Mios fish form, allowing her to travel into the pool in the center of the arena and kick up a flower that the person controlling Zoe can throw at the Ice King using the Tree Ent transformation.

The second this attack lands on the Ice King, the player who has control of Mio has a very short amount of time to get out of the water and transform into their ape form, and hit the Ice King’s headpiece just like before. After doing some damage, this boss fight will continue, but it does begin to get more complicated.

Phase two is full of mechanics that will have players running around like maniacs.

Now the Ice King has learned from the player’s actions and freezes over the pool in the center of the arena, stopping the players from accessing the flower underwater. To gain access to the pool once again, players will have to be patient as the Ice King will spawn what can only be described as explosive hairballs into the arena that will chase down the players and eventually explode.

The best tactic for this would be to stick to the center of the arena until these hairballs explode, but be warned that after a certain amount of damage is done to the ice, the Ice King will create a vortex in the center of the arena again in an attempt to stop you from destroying the ice.

After waiting a short amount of time, the Ice King will spawn more hairballs that the player can use to destroy the ice, allowing them to repeat the earlier process. Once the players have managed to complete these objectives, they will have managed to defeat the Ice King and turn him back into a standard cat.
