Days Gone Remastered Devs Cave and Give Us What We Always Wanted

Days Gone Remastered was recently released for the PlayStation 5 and PC platforms, and this version is arguably the definitive way to experience this story. Bend Studio was no longer being held back by the technical limitations of the PlayStation 4 and took advantage of the extra horsepower of the better hardware. Everything lacking in the base version received a significant upgrade, such as the visuals and even the number of freaks in a single horde.

While the horde system is the bread and butter of this open-world zombie apocalypse title, you will need all the firepower you can get to survive and clear the Broken Road. Fortunately, after hearing the pleas of the player base, the developers decided to hide the ultimate weapon in remote locations of Oregon.

Fighting a horde is one of the more exciting side activities in Days Gone Remastered, but it can be quite terrifying, especially if you are ill-equipped or fail to form a proper plan. While running and gunning is a core strategy, it wouldn’t be as difficult with the Growler minigun equipped. The Growler was originally included in the Challenge mode, but the developers heard enough requests and added this weapon to the story mode. However, you can’t purchase and store it like normal Days Gone weapons.

The Growler gun normally spawns around areas where hordes normally hibernate, like in nearby caves and NERO dead zones. Bend Studio cleverly hid this weapon in case of emergencies or if you decide to stir up some trouble and lack the firepower to clear a horde. The Growler is under the special weapon class, meaning it has the highest rarity in-game, but it can’t be stored in lockers or attached behind Deek’s back if players are travelling.

The Growler Gun has limited ammo, and players can’t refill it from ammo boxes inside police vehicles. Using this weapon against a group of Marauders or Rippers would be a waste, since this weapon is designed to wipe out a horde. With the Growler gun, you can collect enough bounties to stock up on camp credits from the various settlements in Days Gone.
