The Uncharted franchise has helped put Naughty Dog on the map and the studio gained confidence to work on more ambitious stories like The Last of Us. Greatness takes a while to perfect and the gaming community is eager to see what the developers are working on next. While director Neil Druckmann has given vague details on his next project, some pretty convincing shreds of evidence suggest it is a new IP.
Naughty Dog Since Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End and The Last of Us Part 2
Game development takes years to finalize and Naughty Dog isn’t taking any chances after a streak of success which is rare to come by nowadays. The last game the developers released was The Last of Us Part 2 back in 2020 and Druckmann confirmed the studio has been working on their next project since then. In the meantime, a remake of the original The Last of Us was released for the PlayStation 5 and PC, and The Legacy of Thieves collection featuring remasters of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End and The Lost Legacy.
The lack of original current-generation games has given players a deep wonder of what’s to come next, with something massive expected. The PlayStation 5 era could have benefitted from an original Naughty Dog title; fortunately, Druckmann took every opportunity to generate hype for his next project claiming it to be a redefining moment for the studio after the success of Uncharted and The Last of Us.

During an interview, Druckmann suggested that the studio had a few options on what to do next. Sony has complete faith in Naughty Dog and intends to support the developers in their endeavors, whether it is a sequel to an existing franchise or a new IP.
So, yeah, the next thing could be a Part III, the next thing could be some new IP.
A few lucky people have seen what the studio is working on behind the scenes suggesting this new project could deviate from previous projects to a certain extent such as the linear structure and storytelling. It is said that this new game will provide players with more freedom and their decisions will impact the overall experience changing the trajectory of the gaming landscape.
Easter eggs were cleverly embedded in The Last of Us, especially with Ellie’s obsession with space which can be greatly attributed to the Savage Starlight comics. Players found plenty of artwork in-game about space similar to how Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception teased The Last of Us in 2011.
